    Computer Display to TV Display

Trying to see if I have the right idea here. My TV has S-Video and the Yellow RCA female on the back. Will these three products allow me to have my computer display on my TV?

    Yellow RCA:
For only $0.92 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 6ft Coaxial Audio/Video RCA Cable M/M RG59U 75ohm (for S/PDIF, Digital Coax, Subwoofer & Composite Video) | High Quality Digital Audio Cable

    S-Video:
For only $1.96 each when QTY 50+ purchased - 12FT S-VIDEO CABLE DVD DSS SVHS CABLE SVIDEO M/M (24K Gold Plated) | S-Video Cable M/M

    Converter:
For only $24.36 each when QTY 50+ purchased - VGA to RCA | S-VIDEO | VGA Converter | Analog Video Converter

From my understanding, (I'll be using my laptop to hook up to my TV) I'll be plugging in a VGA wire to the side of my laptop, plug the other end into the converter, then have the s-video/yellow RCA wire into the converter, and attach the other end to my TV.

Will this work? Or am I missing something else?

Edit- I'm looking into it further, and I guess the graphics card will have to support TV out. This is the laptop I have, and I'm not sure if it does or not.

Edit2- Made a topic, might as well put some other random questions in here. I have an extra monitor that just has a power/vga input on it. Is there a way to use my playstation 2 on that monitor? I don't know what the process is to set it up, but ultimately a VGA to RCA female I think it would be called? I don't care for sound really, but if I could play some random madden games while listening to music at my desk, I'd be a happy camper.

Edit3- Here's an awesome picture of my edit2. Hopefully this clears some things up. :D

The converter to Svideo/RCA Audio will work. It will look like hell and you'll hate it. You won't need to have a laptop/card that specifically supports video-out to do this.

My opinion: Laptop to TV over Svideo is going to not be worth it.

    As for the other direction...
You can get a converter to do Svideo/RCA to VGA, commonly known as a VGA box. It will probably look like hell and you'll hate it.

I had a component PS2 to VGA box, it worked but barely.

However, you can easily get a component PS2 cable and a Component->VGA cable from monoprice and hook it up that way. That's probably your best bet. Get the 5-cable version and hook some speakers up to the Audio side. I run Component to a receiver to VGA projector for my Wii/PS2/PSP. It is worth it. VGA and component are pretty much equal to each other on the good old scale of graphics quality, and for the money getting component cables for your consoles is a good choice. I don't believe you can do RCA to VGA in a one-way cable because the underlying technology isn't the same, need a converter.

you can and you can't. on the PS2, when they released the linux kit for it, they also shipped a breakout for it to VGA. this worked by converting the 3 lines of a component cable into a VGA connector. the downside of this was that it had no separate sync signal requiring a monitor that supported a largely obsolete spec of "Sync on Green" or SoG. could you use this trick on something today? honestly hell if i know. i'm not up enough on video technology to give that answer, just trying to throw it out there as something that's been used in the past if someone's smarter than me.

If only every console was as awesome as the Dreamcast with native VGA support.

PS2 component cable -> female to female adaptor (or a receiver) -> component to VGA is perfect, and you won't suffer a massive (or noticeable, imho) loss of quality.

    3FT VGA to 3 RCA component video cable (HD15 - 3-RCA) or 6FT VGA to 3 RCA component video cable (HD15 - 3-RCA)

It occurred to me that, obviously, you can't pipe audio down VGA. In my own setup I use optical audio from the PS2 and just leave the two audio RCA connectors alone. (3FT Optical Toslink Cable w/ Metal Fancy Connector).

I feel like I'm being overly wordy and complex, I'm sorry for that. Let me edit in pictures.

Awesome, thanks so much for the write up and links to everything. Hope this works!

Edit-Realized that would get the PS2 to work, what about getting my monitor to display on my TV? lol

Edit 2 - What's the link for the first picture? The one that goes into the PS2. Is it this one? http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2
