    Overclocking a Nvida for FF

Model: Compaq Presario F700 Notebook PC
    Vista 32-Bit OS
Display adapter type: NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M
Total available graphics memory: 799 MB
    Dedicated graphics memory: 64 MB
    Dedicated system memory: 0 MB
    Shared system memory: 735 MB
    Display adapter driver version: 7.15.11.5671
    Primary monitor resolution: 1280x800
DirectX version: DirectX 9.0 or better
Total amount of system memory: 2.00 GB RAM
    Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58

I'm at my wits end with the rig that i have here, and I'm wondering if overclocking my card would be worth the trouble to boost FF performance?

Usually anywhere I go in-game a hum along at about 10 FPS which drives me insane.

And if overclocking would be a good idea, where would be a good place to start? Perhaps a program or a guide to browse over for people who has never dealt with overclocking?

Overclocking a notebook is always a bad idea!

You need a faster processor, overclocking your VC won't save you even if you somehow deal with all the extra heat problems.

Aside from the limitations and heat issues of notebook graphics cards, FF is a more CPU-intensive game. Better graphics cards for notebooks are out there, like the Mobility Radeon HD 3850/3870 or GeForce 9800M GT, but they are VERY hard to find unless you want to buy a custom-built gaming notebook and will probably be VERY expensive. I couldn't even find just the card on Ebay.

The other way to go is to boost to your processor. And since you're using a notebook and overclock is really not a great idea. So the question then becomes how far you can upgrade your processor. The one you have in there now is a TL-58, which is basically a Athlon 64 X2 that's set up on a lower power config. You can at at best upgrade to a TL-68, which gives about a 500mHz speed boost.

The only other thing I can think of that might help your game performance is to optimize your drivers, registry and in-game settings as best you can.

Don't do it as you'll notice zero change.

Ahh, i kinda figured an upgrade was required, was just trying to take the easy way out

The thing that irritates me the most is no matter what i do with the graphics configuration it stays around 7-10 FPS, whether its on atari settings, or jacked all the way to the max. And that just makes no sense to me

That's a really brutal nvidia chipset to play games with....at all....even worse then some of the onboard intel offerings...
