Magic Merits

I was talking with a friend last night about his magic merits and this question came up. Do Blue Magic merits make a huge (or even noticeable) difference at endgame? The person in question currently has BLM and RDM at 75.

Is it worth dropping Elemental and Enfeeble magic for Blue, or should he be sticking with Ele/Enfeeb?

that's honestly a rough judgement call. blu magic skill acts as the damage on their blue "weapon" making all their spells stronger. the big question is which will get used more. answer that then you can reason your answer to your original question.

I'd be asking if he thinks he'll be nuking on RDM more often than he'll be using BLU.

he has blm too, making ele mag merits valuable. if he only had rdm, ditching ele mag for blu mag would be an easy call. blm relies significantly on both resources to ensure accuracy and reduce dependence on gear to allow for higher damage configs.

Yeah, that's a bit tougher. I'd still just go with whatever jobs he plays most often, though.

From my experience, having full blue magic merits gives you noticeable improvements in things which you do in small groups against not overly powerful enemies. Put another way, they'll allow you to perform better in things like assault, salvage, limbus, and the like, but won't make you any more useful against HNMs or high level mobs. It might give Cannonball a significant bonus but I have no measure for comparison, I had my merits long before I had a cannon set.

I don't regret getting my merits but I think unless you use blu a lot more then you do blm it probably won't be worth giving up elem and enfeeb.

Are enfeeb merits going to be the difference between a resisted sleep causing a mob to eat yours' or your alliances' faces?

Would missing merits make your Blm a liability due to high resists?

Is the Blu being used for anything that other people rely on?

Its actually hard because there's so many factors going into it, like what do you do? What gear do you have? What support jobs you got supporting you? that kind of shit. Could always just take a few out. Or could just wait for the next merit update if it ever happens. =]

the merit update really REALLY needs to happen. just let us buy merits now to our hearts content, but only be able to "equip" merits up to the current cap. that way i could unequip my ele/enf merits on blm and slap on singing and wind merits on my brd or blu magic on my blu. mixing and matching hp/mp for the current mob would be handy too.
