Being young justifies being a whore?

Tons of people out of high school are able to keep their pants on, lol.

Why do they get married then join the army and get shipped out?

Feeling of a permanent relationship with a girl waiting for you at home?
Chick I know from work got married at 18 with the husband being shipped out. Don't understand that.

Guy in the article probably could've handled his divorce in a different way and this thing wouldn't have happened, but he needed help in that regard.

And while many employers like hiring formor military due to good work ethics, the techinical job training offered by the armed serves rarely transfer to direct civilian work (several fields do, many more do not: infantry, field artillery, most combat arms, etc).

We need significantly more post deployment counceling and support, as well as a completely re-invented family support core for our deployed soldiers. In addition, we need proper civilian handoff that helps put these people into jobs and provides adequate physical and mental health for our vets.

You're perception of the military and the people that go in/out, as well as the effects of post traumatic stress disorder is not only off, but it's fucking offensive.
Neo hits this right on the head. Researchers like Lieutenant Colonel Dave Grossman have been saying for years that improper treatment of our military during and especially after their service leads to horrible things down the road.

The killings were tragic and unnecessary, it was a deplorable crime, and a lot more could have been done to try and prevent it.

I agree and disagree. The death penalty is a waste of tax money, and life is prison is a suitable punishment. People would argue that being free in society is a prison in itself, but you have options and can enjoy yourself and have fun. You're fucked in prison, in more ways than one.

While it's true, eye-for-an-eye does not solve matters, it's easy to say this if you have not had a close family member/friend murdered in cold blood. I'm sure anyone would feel different in that situation.

is the death penalty really that expensive? (more so than housing someone for 30-40years in prison?)

I'm not seeing a connection between this guy's malfunction to being a vet. He's 38 and joined right after high school. That would probably be between '89 and '91 when he joined. Which would make him enlisted during the Gulf War, but I highly doubt he saw any action there. I'm not saying there aren't problems with how vets are handled after serving, I'm just agreeing with Devek, that this dude was just bjorked anyways.

They always factor in the cost of the appeals process. Judges and lawyer's time cost a lot of money.

You can't pay for a baby and a future with hopes and dreams.

Someone has to do something, someone has to sacrifice, and all the girl has to do is keep her damn legs shut.

We could learn a thing or two from middle eastern people.

Why do you need a baby at 18? You're human beings, not breeding stock. Why do you need to be married at 18, for that matter?

Sure, it's generalizing, but you see it happen so often... below-average-intelligence religious boy marries below-average-intelligence religious girl, pop out a kid or 3 before they turn 20, boy goes off to shoot shit ("fuck yeahr!") in the desert, girl turns into a cow and/or sleeps around, divorce, alcoholism, messed up kids, etc.

Right, because when someone's family member is murdered that person becomes emotional and unable to make rational decisions. The justice system is not passionate, it is logical.

The problem is that people with that sort of pathology just don't care. He doesn't see other people as humans, spending the rest of his life where he can read all the books he wants, all the food he can eat and no one will bother him is the best thing he could hope for.

It's probably pretty bad that I'd say the same thing this guy did if I had done what he did.

Amazingly enough, Obama wanted to charge veterans' private insurance companies for *COMBAT* injuries.

That lasted like 5 hours, but it gives you an idea how fucking ridiculous we really are about it.

I was talking about everyone in the military, not the ones in combat duty. Not everyone in the military is killing people, watching friends die, etc...

I have family and friends in combat duty, and they have fucked up stories about their time in the middle east. I appreciate what the troops are doing. I also know that they knew what they were getting into, and wont be playing the victim when they get back.
