there are already enough stupid people driving around who get the gas and brake pedals mixed up, i really don't want to add another axis of interaction to common travel

You need to have a pilot license and drivers license to drive/fly one of those cars. I've love to have one.
It will be a while before the general public has access to flying cars (obviously), if ever. I could see the government banning this because TERRORISTS WANT TO EAT YOUR CHILDREN. Also, regulating air travel when that many people would have access to their own means of transportation seems like it would be a bitch and definitely something the current system could not handle.
I'd definabtly be surprised if it was ever commercialized for those same reasons, it would require an entire reworking of so many existing laws... But on the positive side - just think about how many new jobs it would introduce! Air traffic police would offer limitless jobs (but by that time I doubt we will still be in the employment decline we r currently seeing
Great thing about policing the skies is that you can be tracked so easily if you violate airspace regulations. And the worst part is you can't just hide somewhere; you have to land safely. When you taxi away you'll find a nice group of FAA officials waiting for you.
well obviously commercializing it is going to be far far far into the future. But it's a start at least.
people are too stupid, i really have a pessimistic view of things, i get that, but i've seen people screw up some really easy things that should be mostly automatic/cruise control
besides, if something goes wrong while they're flying themselves you'd still need a pilot's license to figure out how to fix it anyway
There's no way in hell the FAA will allow regular joes with a simple driver's license to fly that car. Shit would hit the fan hard.
Chiming in a little late, but that's not really a flying car. That's a plane with folding wings that can be driven on the road. An ultralight you can pack into the back of a van is way more versatile.
The Moller Skycar looks cooler, even though it still doesnt work right.

I cant wait for flying cars so I can sport this look, and say the line
"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads."

I don't know if the article says this, but the boat one that was on tv a month or 2 ago said it.
This vehicle does not take a pilot license to be able to fly
They either made a special, or there is a special type of license that is relatively easy and cheap to get, takes 1-2 weeks of training and supposedly this car is very simple to fly. Because of the design of the aircraft it falls into a small category and people are able to fly this thing without much trouble or training.
ill check this thread in another 10 years. Seeya guys
There is no other license except recreational license, which has a lot of restrictions compared to a pilot's license. I bet that it has to stay within class G airpsace.
And for an idea of how small an area that is (FL stands for Flight Level and AGL is Above Ground Level):
