Pretty sure you can link it to a new xbox live account, like if you lost your old one or what not.

So if he no longer plays and has given you the account, make a new xbox live silver membership (the free one) and relink it to your 2nd account.

Yes, you have to call SE and provide the usual name/address/reg codes info, they will unlink it within minutes.

Cat bed in front of 360 is prone to get the inside and vents clogged with cat hair, cause it to overheat, explode, start a house fire, etc.

I also had that very same cable receiver and it melted its own insides cause I had a couple of ps3 controllers sitting on top of it and wasn't getting enough ventilation, you're very brave having a whole ps3 on top of it.
