can you get any old keyboard to chat with on the 360?
can you use the chat pad that attaches to the controller to do all the text based stuff in game?

yeah i think im going to have to get the chat pad.
what about tab key? is there any tab key on the chat pad... >.>
Congrats on your new Xbox 360 Izzy! Liquinas is right though in that having your PS3 on top of that Motorola Cable box is a disaster waiting to happen. You would would increase the life of your electronics by moving some of your game boxes elsewhere and setting the PS3 to the side of the cable box.
Those Motorola boxes have their tops severely ventilated to begin with for a reason. Over time they can literally cook the internal components if you block it in any way.
I went through two of them with DVRs because I had an old Fat PS2 sitting on them at the time. Eventually, the tech when he came out said that the reason the HDDs were going out and not recording on the dual tuners was because the box was overheating. He said that many people underestimate the need of proper ventilation on them and block them by putting crap on them or in too small of a confined space.
I will also agree that as a cat owner myself, keep your kitties away from the 360. Those things suck in hair and dust like vacuums.
Lastly, I too am interested if they fixed the chat pad with a firmware update or something. I purchased it when it came out and was horribly disappointed in the support it had for FFXI. You could do basic shorthand text chatting, but trying to do anything complicated like proper punctuation, quick macro access, or tabbing for auto translate was impossible.
Ok, I just have to ask Izzy, what kind of desk is that you got there? I've been on the look-out for something to replace the leg-cramped piece of shit I got now, and that one you got there looks perfect....
I inherited the desk from my girlfriends sister. All I know is that she got it as a drafting table.
The chat pad still has that / problem. I just kinda deal with it. Maybe I think it's do great because I've been typing with the controller for so long.
I guess I need to move that cable box somewhere else then. Sucks though because all of my bookshelves are full.
Izzy i just don't like you....
fu izzy

As for the "/" problem: I had to hit the green square toggle button twice, second time holding it down and then press the "/" button for the "/" to show up. It's a huge hassle, but I will take it because xbox ffxi on TV is SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER than ps2/3 ffxi on TV. Izzy once hooked up his computer to the TV so he was playing with FFXI blown up.. <33333333333333 this is just like that.
Double tap the green button then hit the key to get the /, just hold the green the second time. It takes a second or two longer to type things so if you're wanting to use the chatpad to do clutch healing like /ma Cure Joe, don't use it. For general chat though, it's fine. Well as long as you don't mind double tapping the green every time you want to use a symbol (!@#$%^&*()/'") etc or just not using them at all.
So yeah... today is Caturday >.>
Too bad I don't have a digital camera to post my cat ; ;
