My fiancee would agree with you on that, hugely. She loves Iron Maiden, so very much. I'm pretty sure the only thing stopping us from an Iron Maiden themed wedding is the fact we're not actually having a ceremony.

The last five tracks might be the most intense slab of music recorded in the last ten years.

It also reminded me that I once sold their former guitarist a copy of Rainbow Six 3 for the Xbox. I wish my memory were this good when it came to things that actually mattered D:

Jane Doe is Converge's masterpiece IMO. I didn't like No Heroes that much but it grew on me.

To be honest, I don't know why I left Sleep off, momentary mental lapse. Asunder kills. Converge is definitely one of my favorites of all time, since I heard Petitioning the Empty Sky for the first time. You Fail Me still has to be my favorite though, there was just something completely different about it. Now, I still think Jane Doe is one of their best, you can tell from the differing production value from track to track that it was recorded at several different studios, and for some reason that bothered me. It didn't feel like it all belonged together. Did anyone else get to make it to the Scion Rock Fest last month? I was kinda surprised at their choice of set list. I didn't get to watch the full set though, had to bumrush the main stage to get up front for Neurosis.

Am I the only one who absolutely cannot stand what Howard Jones has done to Killswitch Engage? He completely changed what the band's music is about, and his "singing" is annoying, and his scream isn't all that great either. Ever since Jesse left, I cannot enjoy their music at all.

I think Howard brought the band to a way higher level than what it once was. His vocals IMO are one of the best, and blows Jesse's out of the water. Jesse had that generic metal scream, whereas Howard can actually sing and has a great voice. Again, that's just my opinion.

I agree, one of things I love about Killswitch is their singer, he has a really good voice.

OH! Mammatus! Dude, Mammatus is freaking SIIICK! Think Black Sabbath when they still had a lot of that psychedelic thing going on. Good stuff there.

Revitozu, I think Tristania would be right up your alley.

My guess for the variation on JD is they probably recorded it in Kurt's studio, I know they've done a bunch of their releases there. From what I remember there are (were?) a few different rooms there with varying acoustic characteristics. Perhaps they just made full use of the facilities? I dunno, I can't seem to find anything online about where it was recorded, and I don't have the liner notes handy atm, seems plausible to me though.

I guess the end result is the same either way, so it's kind of a pointless nitpick, haha.

Most of the Napalm roster of goth/doom metal acts would fit that.

Some other great bands I forgot to mention...

    Tristitia
    Lykathea Aflame
Golden Dawn (The Art of Dreaming)
    Arcturus
    Septic Flesh

I also really have a soft spot for Sentenced, even though they went rather rock in the later years.

I've heard some of them, but can never find their music around. :X So I don't know too much, but I like whatever I've heard.
