You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Alright you canadians

Is Queen Elizabeth II your queen or not?

Probably sounds retarded but I always thought she was considered Canada's Queen still (even though she's mostly show now). And one time I mentioned it to me friends and they were all laughing, "fuck lol no she's not"

So, then I asked some Canadian friends and they were like "iono I think she stopped being Queen decades ago" and laughed.

But today I ran across the Wiki that suggest that she still has the title "Queen of Canada" and one of your heads of states is appointed by the queen and seeks her advice.

so wtf lol Canadians, was I right all along, or am I retarded and can't read the wiki right?

note: the us could give a lol on Canada's history so we don't learn any of it in school.

Also, I guess I could ask what the brits are told about it too.

I thought there was something about a cabinet and Margaret Thatcherbot? My American books have trained me well in the ways of the lesser world.

Back in grade school they just called her a symbol, over and over again.

I try to ignore the queen as much as possible but I think she is still officially the queen although it really is for show. As far as the person appointed by the queen I think it is much the same where that is technically what it is but the queen really does nothing. My one goal in life is to see the queen visiting canada and standing next to the street and then driving into a puddle by and splashing her.

Ok Kids in the Hall reference, but:

Without the Queen and the French you all would just be Americans.

What's awesome about that is Kids in the Hall was exactly why I thought the Queen was still "queen" in Canada.

Good thing to know I wasn't crazy XD

I knew she'd be mostly a figurehead, hell she's a figurehead in Britain too, but she still has the title of "Queen" for like 15 countries:

the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis

The Queen is still Canada's official head of state in name only. She appoints the Governor General, but I'm fairly sure that she is actually "advised" by Canada (the Prime Minister maybe) on who to choose.

The Queen is still our Head of state

Queen > Governor General > Prime Miniter

But the Queen and her rep have very little to do with the decision making in our country.

As said above, the Queen is the Head of State in Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth. In Canada, the Queen is represented by the Governor General who was historically chosen by the Queen, but more recently is chosen "by recommendation" of the Prime Minister. The Governor General does have some powers within the Canadian system (as recently demonstrated in December) but generally is just a signature on whatever Parliament has decided.

Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada, but her function as the monarch and head of state is purely ceremonial. The Governor General serves as the monarch's representative to sign bills into law, but since the late 19th Century the GG's office has taken a stance that their actions or decisions should not and will not affect the business of Parliament or Government.

This arrangement also extends to the Provinces as contracts or agreements with the provincial government are done with, say, "British Columbia in the right of the crown". Public land is referred to as "Crown land" and public corporations (which are operated by the government at arms length) are "Crown corporations".

I don't really feel like the Queen or the monarchy really means much to average Canadians on a day-to-day basis. Being a part of the Commonwealth of Nations does have advantages since it's easier for us to travel and work, but beyond that it's pretty inconsequential.

The only thing that you need to know about Canada is the drinking age is 18, and they have a store called the "Beer Store" that will take your orders and roll cases of beer to you on a belt of rollers.

Any of the commonwealth countries have the queen as their ceremonial head if I recall correctly.

Commonwealth of Nations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You'll see on the side that the head of the Commonwealth is Queen Elizibeth.

I think it's only 18 in 1 province and the rest is at 19 years. Still far better than the US.
