    Leathercraft money sink?!

So I've decided to take up leathercrafting and was wondering about how much gil it would take on average to go from 0-100. Like how GS is considered to take well over 10m(don't want to exaggerate but I'm sure it's more).

My leather is 60 (sub) and as far as i can recall, it wasnt expensive at all to take it that higher, mind you i actually farmed most of the mats to skill up except tiger hides, but if u dont break even doing that (time consumed vs selling shitty items to npc/AH) at least u get some profit.

Above 60 i dont really know since i never checked the recipes and such, but i have a friend that took leather from 1 to 100 quick enough and didnt lose that much gil (2~3mil?). Advice is farm the most of you can for minimal loses

    ......!

Ok, here's the dirty little secret. Every craft is a debate between time spent and gil spent. Want to level a craft cheaply? Farm everything. It will just take you a helluva lot longer than someone with the capital to burn to powerlevel to 100. So look at your recipe lists and server prices/sell rates (because whenever someone asks "how did you level so-and-so craft from x level to y level?" that's what others do for them), contemplate if you can afford it step by step, and contemplate the cost vs. time debate for those synths.

Crafting is not really that complicated. Its just that many prefer not to invest the time truly needed in market research, ingredient hunting, and time spent in game leveling said craft. Ask any one of the extremely successful crafters out there and you'll find they are all a slave to their craft- checking FFXIAH from work, debating on sell rates, computing profit/cost margins, camping the AH for materials. If you're not willing to put off other ingame activities for crafting, you won't be successful.

Lastly, remember your guild point costs. I have spent over 420k in guild points between clothcraft and goldsmithing, and need to spend another 200k for the CC sign still. That's a ton of gil lost- yes lost- that can't always be recouped in any short time. Hell, average 10k gil spent for each 2k of guild points....and that's low....and I've spent around 2 million gil in just guild points- not leveling. And most have spent more than I.

Sorry for the long response, and its not just you, but I'm tired of seeing people post 2 sentence questions about how to make da l33t gilzzzzz. Not saying you did that per se, just saying that if you want to level a craft you'll get a lot more answers from ffxiah.com and ffrecipe.com than you will from people. Keep in mind that deep down the current crafters don't want competition, and aren't going to tell you what you want to hear. So get out there and spend the time necessary.

This is the best answer you're going to get considering there's no exact answer. It's going to be different for everyone depending on server prices and the skill up path you take.

So to answer your question, it'll cost about tree fiddy.

    to OP:

Sorry to jump down ya neck- wish I had known you already had a veteran level craft. While my words remain true, it appears you didn't need to hear 'em. I would suggest a little more in depth wording though.....however you always run the risk of the tl;dr here on BG- I know I've gotten in many, many times here haha.

IMHO, leveling Leathercraft on your main would be cake since you can easily farm the main synthesis materials out in the field, and also synth them in the field if you choose to do so.

Doing it on a mule (like I'm doing now) is a bit more work intensive from farming on main, warping back, sending skins to mule, etc. etc.

As for costs, it's very cheap, especially if you farm all of your mats. I did this for everything except for the stretch between 21-31 (made Parchments) and 52-61 (Tiger Leathers), everything else, though, you can easily farm, synth in the field, and even some of your product will sell to NPC for a fair amount of gil, which will make up for the costs of Crystals, Windy Tea Leaves, Distilled Water, etc.

Hasn't the targeting synth materials for farming idea been exhausted to death by now? If you farm to make gil target the most profitable thing and use that gil to buy the ingredients.

Raptor mantle range is the only crappy part if I remember right. But I also farmed all the ram hide/horns

If anyone has ever done dusk gloves, when did you start? Gil wise I mean.

I think most people did dusk skilling during the lotto market when hides were flooded. I'm not sure how many do it anymore. Goodluck though if you do
