Here is the only rule you need to know when shopping for any type of monitor:

*If Samsung makes it, don't bother looking elsewhere.

I have a Samsung 22" computer monitor and a 9 series 46" Samsung. The 9 series was a bit over $2000, but worth every cent. With your budget, I would go with that 5 series that was posted.

120Hz is still a joke, dont fall for that marketing scheme. If the only thing you plan to do is use the TV for Bluray, then by all means get 120, but if you plan to watch/do anything else, 120 is hit and miss, and most people think 120 makes things look fake.

Until proper framerate conversions are fixed, 60/120 is a personal preference, I think it sucks.

Also, refurb doesnt mean it wont have any dead pixels or scratches, those are case by case. Manufacturers dont have to fix the screen (get a new screen) if there are only a few dead pixels, and same thing with scratches. Refurb just means it works and meets minimal standards.

There is a noticeable difference between 60 and 120hz. I switch back and forth all of the time just to check the difference.

It can be preferenced as Seph said.

Oh, a HDTV thread, good: I was looking into buying one aswell, but there's one thing that is rrrrrrrrrreally holding me back...is it just me or does the image on a HDTV run "faster"?

I mean, I recently rewatched the Mummy Returns on my laptop and a few days ago I saw it in some shop on a HDTV and it felt like it went at like 1,2 times the speed or something. Is it just me not being used to it or does anyone else have this?

Once you have HD you can't go back, especially for sports.

That's probably the fault of 120Hz.

Oh I see...since most TVs/PCs run at 60 Hz, right? If my understanding is correct you can switch to 60 Hz on every 120 Hz TV though, yes?

Not all TVs will have that option.

It's just the difference in how some 120hz TVs go about doing their thing, 60hz TVs have problems with other stuff too, but weve sort of perfected it after all this time.

Refresh rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telecine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and pulldown
Motion interpolation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theres just a lot of things that factor in to it.

120 Hz isn't the problem with blurring, so most TVs don't let you turn it off. What adds the blurring is stuff like Samsung's Automotion Plus, and whatever all the other vendors call it. Seph alluded to that point with the motion interpolation, but that is definitely able to be turned off on TVs. I'd only suggest using it for sports and fast moving shows.
