Any exceptional 5.1 headphones with mic?

I am unable to find any 5.1headphones that really stick out, or maybe I just don't know where to look. Does anyone on here recommend a certain pair, I am not buying right now so I am not concerned with price as long as it doesn't exceed 300$, maybe more depends on the quality:money ratio.

So far I have read about 5 reviews for these ones and seem like the "best" choice, Tritton AX Pro 5.1, but I am still not sold on them, I will probably be wearing them for 4+hrs at a time often so comfort is also a huge factor.

Back when I was in the market for a headset (wanted to have attached mic like you), everything I read was telling me to stay the fuck away from "5.1 headphones" and just stick with Stereo headphones with 5.1/7.1 virtualization. From what I see on forums, that seems to still be the case. 5.1/7.1 headsets are more or less a ploy by certain companies to capture the "gaming" market, even though they do not perform nearly as well as stereo headphones. Since that knowledge kept me away from them, I will instead tell you what I ended up with and what I probably would have got if I had been willing to spend a little more.

The pair I got is the Sennheiser PC-350. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them, they are easily and by far the best pair of headphones I've ever owned (of course, prior to these I had always stuck to <$50 headsets lol). They were a little tight when I first got them, but now that they are stretched out a bit I have no problem wearing them for hours (though they are closed ear, so it can get a little hot if you aren't used to that). Sound quality is almost unrivaled compared to other closed-ear circumaural headsets in this price range.

With more money though, I might have gone with the Astro A40 + mixamp set up. The mixamp really sells it, it apparently helps a lot. You can buy it separately, but its like $130, which makes the combo pretty good. These are pretty slick because you can change them between open-ear and closed-ear as well depending on what you like (see image 5 on their site). Anyways, google some reviews for these, I'd be surprised if you found something under 4/5 stars, they've been pretty highly praised. I would have got them but I just couldn't get myself to spend that much on a headset lol.

I should note that picking a headset is really situational based on your needs. If you are hunting perfect sound quality, particularly with music, then you should probably go with a nice pair of headphones instead of a headset (google around for recommendations from the audiophile community, they live for telling people what to get or not get). If you lan a lot, or just don't like separate mics then a headsets fine. If you need ventillation to be able to wear a headset for a long time, make sure that you're going for an open ear design. If sound-blocking (keep inside sound in to not annoy others, and outside sound out to not annoy yourself) is more important, then go for closed.

And since it looks like you really do want to spend enough for a pretty strong quality pair, don't forget the sound card. A $300 pair of headphones isn't going to be any better than a $50 pair with onboard sound. I really like my HT Omega Striker 7.1, but some of the creative line around this price range is definitely good too. Just like for headphones, find your price range, and then go crazy with the reviews and forum reading. It will pay off.

Picked up a set of Bose Companion 3s off of craigslist to hold me over until I can afford the Astro Gaming headset, and the bose sound great with my PS3. Weird thing is mine look different than the ones on Crutchfield, anyone know if there was a previous version were the sub woofer and satellite speakers were more rounded than they are now, on crutchfield they are squared. Regardless they sound awesome I would just like to know a round about time that the original owner purchased them seeing as how they seem to be an older style. You dont need 5.1 headphones. The X-Fi does 3D virtualization wonderfully.

Pretty sure you can get better for the money, I'm not a fan of logitech sound only keyboards/mice.
