I see guys at the local gun club shoot 20+/25 in trap matches on a regular basis, with single barrel shotguns.

If you need a semi-auto to bird hunt, you really fucking suck.

Semi-auto gun is useful for more than rate of fire, the cycling of the bolt with the gas or inertia reduces recoil allowing to hunt for a longer time, use magnum loads like the 3 & 3 1/2's used for Geese and Ducks and Turkey. Skeet and Trap use a lighter shot shell, and you aren't shooting at more than 2 clays from the 6 stations at a time in a standard match, where as on a quail hunt I may flush a covey of quail numbering in the 30's, or a 3 day goose/duck hunt using 3 1/2's you just cant be effective with a single shot, double, or pump.


Oh and semi-auto varmint rifles are absolutely a dream clearing up coyote, prairie dog, a hog populations.
