Allow for honor gains via arena? Now the people that want to do BGs won't be afking them because well, they want to be there. The rest of us who would rather not deal with dribbling idiots can stick to arena!

Or just ban the people who bot in battlegrounds, that works too.
Ban their IP and burn their houses down.
Take the marvel vs capcom 3 route, track which players get reported afk the most, then just queue them up in an afker-only bgs where nobody does anything and gets 10 honor per 2hour timeout.
That'd be great, especially when you get the occasional one where someone looks at computer and notices and solos the BG
I'd like to say that one option loses Blizzard Bux while the other doesn't, but as we saw with XI during the Salvage Dupes, if people are hardcore enough about the game, they'll pay to be back.
Its not a bad idea, though, to have a tracking system that tracks AFK percentage in BGs. Once you hit around 10-15% or so, make it so the person has a minimum wait time or something to get into a BG. Perhaps a half hour wait each time - minimum - until they suffer though enough legit BGs without AFKing in one to drop their rating back under the 10-15% threshold.
Pretty sure an AFKer can get far more honor far faster by simply doing it the legit way. If someone wants to continue to AFK bot, then simply jack up the minimum wait time with each 5% increment by 10 or 15 minutes or so. I can't see some idiot being happy with mandatory 1 hour waits just because he's too lazy to stop AFKing in a BG.
I'm pretty sure allowing cheaters to prosper while wrecking one of the few things to do at 85 costs Blizzard more subscriptions than suspending/banning cheaters until they stop cheating.
Plus if they're really concerned about losing subs, they can just make the people unable to queue for battlegrounds for a period of time rather than outright banning, or as you said just kill their QoS until they wise up or stop joining BGs altogether.
One of the problems in my eyes is that raid gearing can be done far faster than arena gearing. It would be vastly helpful to allow arenas to grant honor points after reaching the weekly cap (at a discounted rate of course, maybe 50-100 points per win) instead of sitting in BGs with 9-39 other players of greatly varying skill and dedication.
People will always continue to try and cheat the system with things like BGs, they will continue to find the way that takes the least effort with the greatest yields. To make a "perfect" system would likely take far more resources than Blizzard is willing to commit to solving that problem.
4 sub 4% wipes on heroic halfus tonight![]()
Ehh....not so sure. I mean, DPS with a 30-40min queue to get a heroic that takes 90min, so 2 hours for a chance at a few pieces of loot. RNG says no drops, takes a while. Of course, some heroics do take only 30min these days, but unlikely in a pug. So far my mage has done two heroics since hitting 85 and has one piece of gear to show for it. An hour waiting in a queue and 2.5 hours running heroics for one piece. I think my pally farmed an item in that time when I was caring about PvP.
Say you queued random and won every game in 15 minutes, with instant queues. Factoring in the 200ish you get for the first, you're going to average about 100-120 a win.
In 2.5 hours you've won every single game in a far faster than average time, giving you a total of 10 wins, being generous that's 1200 honor.
Congratulations, you're only 600 points away from the major pieces...
Now pretend you're horde and have 30 minute queues, and are vastly outgeared every game because alliance gets in games so much faster... and yeah, you get the picture.
Seriously, the honor grind is ridiculous atm. It's a product of mmo designers deciding there are certain "rules" that have to be followed, one of which being "If you get to choose which piece you get, it has to take an exorbitantly long fucking time to get there."
And I'm alliance, and win like 80% of my instant queue games these days lol.
Also, captcha is the correct answer. I'm all for banning, but it's not even a matter of money lost/gained by banning vs not banning, it's a matter of them not being willing to dedicate the resources it takes to actually get the bannings right.
Or, you can outright purchase i339 blue pvp gear for gold. Aside from the set bonuses, it's a reasonable substitute for the i352 pvp gear--certainly strong enough that if you're a solid pvper you'll have no trouble pushing your arena rating high enough to get i365 epic pieces at a very good pace, certainly not appreciably slower than those assholes that bot honor all day.
Buying the 339 blue set was the most disappointing thing I've ever done, I spent like 7k and it gave me about 1400 resil (combined with my old lv 80 trinket). That's ~15% dmg reduction. I was still getting barely more than globaled.
At 2200 it takes 2 weeks to get the weapon, and then you get 1 piece per week from there out basically. I'm sure botting is faster than that or nobody would bother.
This sounds like exactly the experience of someone who has to PUG PvE content for heroic blue gear, except that in 2.5 hours you're lucky to clear a single heroic for MAYBE one lucky gear drop but most of the time you earn ~300JP and nothing else. I have no sympathy for the PvP honor grind.
People will bot even when there's only marginal gain because without a downside a lot of people have no problem cheating to gain an edge. Start banning and that will change quickly. After all, you need to bot for hours upon hours to get even 1 piece of gear. If your chance of getting caught was even 5% per hour then each piece you bot is a huge risk, especially if they do something like suspend your arena/battleground privileges for a week on the first offense.
If you're hardcore pvp you should be able to clear 2000 with little problem even in 85 pve gear / crafted pve gear then you're getting a weapon in what...3 weeks? And a piece per week after that. In 10 weeks you're 1 week behind in gear progression, big deal. Or you can run a bot 4-6 hours a day and cheat your way to success!
I always thought they should add a pvp category where everyone start with the same gears. It would be easier to balance, and probably more competitive in the end. Competitive pvp based on gears make no sense to me.
And battleground...make them works like dota or something.
Pug dungeons fail a lot.
Premade bgs win a lot. (and fast too: you can crank out 7+ WSG in 1 hour if you have a nearly full premade)
I have no sympathy for horde complaining about bg wait times. It's the only thing that at least tries to help with server balance, since bliz does jack else. You want to bg a lot? Play alliance.
