LOL @ blue threads, Blizzard getting all defensive because people are rightfully criticizing them that 7 bosses is a pretty meager patch. My current theory is that development has been slow as molasses because they are crunching on Diablo3 as they desperately want to get it out in 2011. WoW dev probably operating with a skeleton crew, at least it feels like it with the slow pace of the PTR and the unimaginitive changes in 4.1.
T12 is now looking like optimistically June, probably July, and MAYBE another raid towards the end of 2011 (but again, D3 will probably interfere with it). A far cry from 2009 which gave us 3 tiers, ~25 bosses between Ulduar and Icecrown (and also shitfest ToC but let's never mention that raid again).
Yeah I loved the blue posts talking like 7 bosses were going to be a major content patch because "they are unique models guis! that takes us longer then resizing an existing model", which by it's own rights is true....but this amount of time... Also wtf happened to the "fast content patches but with only a little at a time", now we're getting "slow content patches with jackshit in them"
Firelands will be on the PTR for at "least" 2 months. They aren't just testing raid content, they are also testing a very heavily phased quest hub.. and phasing has been/is extremely buggy. And while 7 bosses, they need also also test HM's for the bosses (hopefully they will let ppl test regular/HM Ragnaros so it doesn't come out the door as buggy as some of the later encounters in t11 content since we all know how good blizz is on testing stuff on their own). But ya, having ppl wait 6-7 months for a new raid that offers just over 1/2 of current raiding tier is really mind blowing to me. Ulduar was released in less time and it had twice as many bosses (and a more diverse raid) then firelands. Firelands raid can look as awesome as they want, but it's really gonna be one aesthetic for an entire raid
Patch 2.4 added 6 bosses and those able to progress past Brutallus thought that was a masterpiece, retarded gating mechanism notwithstanding.
Just sayin'
Keep in mind that during Sunwell, T5 and T6 raids were still in play for a lot of raiding folks. And there wasn't massive sources of gear-boosting like there is now. Ever since Wrath, though, each tier has made it a near total waste of time to farm anything except the current raid tier.
Sunwell was at the end of an expansion, most people had not even gotten through BT/Hyjal and were working on that still. SWP was in the game for how long till WoTLK shipped and was basically the ToC equiv for content, aka filler till other stuff came out.
Also i'm sorry but yeah, 6 bosses was pretty small even for BC...but that was also in TBC, I would have thought after 2 more expansions there would be a little more effort into putting more content into the game.
The difference is that Ulduar didnt rely on the hardmode "filler content" mechanic. the hardmodes for each bosses actually involved doing something different on the regular boss to activate it, which I thought was great. Now blizzard can add in 7 bosses, then say "Well we really added 14 guys, hardmodes trollolol".Ulduar was released in less time and it had twice as many bosses (and a more diverse raid) then firelands. Firelands raid can look as awesome as they want, but it's really gonna be one aesthetic for an entire raid
There really isn't MUCH different between hardmodes setting bosses and activating a hardmode during a regular attempt other then it feels that since they added the "hardmode setting" content has shrunk because they view it as being 2x the content, which it is not.
Random lag spikes mid fights is sucky :/ Seems like a lot of ppl in tech support/bug forums are experiencing it too. Like every time nef casts dominion I spike for 1-5 seconds. yesterday on chogal I spiked for 15 seconds on some part.
27, no normal mode algalon!
Right but what im trying to get at, is that blizzard is using hardmode setting dungeons, aka you complete an instance then unlock hardmode bosses, as a way to double up their content when it's not really doubling it up at all. It just gets into the argument again that if you are fighting a boss but now he hits harder or has an add is it really new content? Or just the same boss with a gimmick? As Ulduar was, it was 13(?) bosses, with hardmode gimmicks, but Blizzard didn't suggest to anyone that there were technically 27 bosses in actuality.
We had issues last night on Nef10, our interrupts were hitting to stop Blast Nova...yet the cast would still go off and not register 1-2 people hitting an interrupt due to server lag.Random lag spikes mid fights is sucky :/ Seems like a lot of ppl in tech support/bug forums are experiencing it too. Post-wrath raiding history: (Raid philosophy before Wrath was significantly different, so it doesn't make for a very good comparison)
T7 Naxx, 13 + 2 bosses, 5 months tier duration--to be fair this was recycled T3 content, and tuned very very easy, which is why it was received poorly.
T8 Ulduar, 13 bosses, 4 months tier duration, widely regarded as the best tier of the expansion (and too short)
T9 ToC, 5 bosses, 4 months tier duration, widely regarded as the worst tier of the expansion
T10 ICC, 12 + 1 bosses, 11 months tier duration (the "plus 1" boss came in 3.3.5), widely regarded as a mediocre tier mainly because it dragged on so long
T11 BWD/BOT/T4W, 13 bosses, 7+ month tier duration, very well received but fatigue set in somewhere around the beginning of month 5
T12 Firelands, 7 bosses, 5+? month tier duration
What I want to say is that the "sweet spot" is around 2-3 bosses per month. If they want to deliver 6-7 bosses per raid instance, they need to be on a pace to release every 3-4 months. Perhaps they should go to a Major/Minor cycle, where they deliver 6 + 2-3 bosses in 2 instances, forming a new tier, and then deliver 6 bosses in 1 instance 4 months later, supplementing the tier.
they're kind of right to put a skeleton crew on WoW. I know my ass will be gone day 1 D3 hits. (big shock considering my avatar).
My DK T12 looks like a fucking C'thulu butterfly. The shit is that?
Pally t12 looks like some old warlock tier, go figure.
I like mage tier, the phoenix feathers(idk what they are, but that's what they look like) are sweet and compliment fire nicely.
Does anyone know if the screenshots are using belts which match the set? Because if they are then Blizz decided to take the community opinion on not having massive ass belts.
