I probably bitched out the wrong person and now this is my retribution lol. That 'tard you screw with in raid finder could be a bliz employee, who knows.
UGGGGGGGHHHHHH
Blizzard isn't putting flight back in 6.1. God, navigating through Draenor is a fucking pain in the ass and I find myself going days without leaving my garrison at all. Why do they think this is a good idea? I was okay with waiting a few months for it but a whole expansion? Fuck that. They seriously just killed any desire I had to log in with that stupid AMA.
No, there is nothing fun to me about running around mountains when I just want to go in a straight line, or spending 20 minutes looking for the one path that goes the way I want to go. I had my fill of that on Parradamo Tor in FFXI.
I hated Isle of Thunder, I hated Timeless Isle, and I hate this.
I didn't mind not having it while leveling and yes even some of the jumping puzzles were fun but I'm completely over it. I think this is the fastest I've ever gotten tired of an expansion, and I really thought it was amazing when I leveled through it. Oh well. Idk if I'm going to let my sub lapse or not, I guess I'll see how I feel when I'm done with finals and I have more time to play. If I find myself not logging in as much then I may just take an extended break.
I honestly don't see the appeal of having no flying, like Aks i'm fine without it for leveling and was fine with not having it for the first patch but after that i want the freedom to do and go wtf i want. Let me choose how i want to go about getting somewhere, there have been plenty of times i've hopped on a ground mount to go somewhere at cap simply because i had that choice and wanted a different perspective of the world.
It just seems to me that blizzard is trying to recapture the vanilla days (don't get me wrong nostalgia is all well and good) but shit should progress not regress, there were a myrid of ways to make flying work with their vision on draenor but they just took the easy way out (that i can see why since 6 months behind and all) and its just sad to see a feature thats been in the game longer than it wasn't just get effectively canned for current content for what seems like all the bandwagoning that happened after GC said he or they regreted adding flying.
I agree that no-flying is okay for leveling but should be available at max level and as a perk for alts like in WotLK. I just find the lack of flying to be tedious at max level, and requiring garrison slots to negate the annoyances of flying (either through the temp-flight feather you get from the Inn or the removal of daze mechanics you get from the Stables) is not fun design.
Another thing that's been bugging me: this was supposed to be the expansion where they got rid of the tedious daily grind, but after several weeks I feel like we're in the same boat we were in with MoP, and a lot of it has to do with work order design and profession design.
Having all the skillup recipes require BoP daily cooldown mats (eng, alch, and maybe ench are the exceptions but I don't know if you can get to 700 just on the non-BoP mat recipes) means people are looking at around a month of cooldowns and work orders to get to 700 skill without grinding primal spirits, so you have to spend a month of logging in daily just to get to the point where you can take advantage of the 3-charge 24-hr cooldown ability, and by the time you can even take advantage of that, a lot of the gear you can make will be devalued from all the BoE and raid drops people are getting in the meantime -- not that this didn't happen in previous expansions, but it typically didn't take 20+ days of BoP cooldown mats to make the entry raid-level crafted gear, so if you wanted to grind out mats to meet demand from people wanting to gear up fast, you had that option. The mine and herb garden not being able to stockpile extra nodes at higher levels also negates some of the point of "you don't have to log in every day to tend to your wizard chores".
Conceptually I love the mechanics of WoD and garrisons, but they relied too much on forcing people to log in daily for 10-15 minutes of work instead of letting you do it in larger, less frequent chunks, and the "daily fatigue" is starting to set in for me.
You can put me in the 'Don't like the no fly zone' group as well. The games activities are broken up into bite-sized bits, so it's not like I'm going all over the place as is. I flight path in, to wherever I want to go, and pretty much stay there until it's done.
It's pretty obvious that, whatever lead to the Titan Project cancellation greatly affected this expansion. As much as I'm enjoying it, I'm disappointed in the end product, as I see how much better it should have been.
Also part of the "I hate no flying" group. It feels like a massive step backward. Having to run around zones worrying about getting smacked around makes me want to explore less, not more. Especially at max level. If they really wanted us to see the world, the lich king model was best; ooh and ahh on your way to cap, then buy a tome and never worry about it again.
People saying "i'm so glad theyre not adding flying!" irks me as well. Here's a concept: THEN DONT FUCKING USE IT. Your experience is in no way, shape, or form, changed by flying being allowed; however our experience is being worsened because of it.
Seriously that irks the shit out of me. No one forces anyone to use flying mounts.
I also get really sick of the people on the forums calling for allowing flying on PvE realms but not on PvP realms. I get that it's probably more griefer/ganker types who want to keep no flying so they can continue with their sociopathic behavior, but I personally don't want to PvP on a constant basis, despite my being on a PvP server. The idea of splitting servers like that is so absurd though, like PvP players can't possibly want the convenience and ease of travel that flying presents.
Fucking morons. I should probably not spend so much time on the forums, but then I also see it in trade and general chat, too, so I just don't even know.
First person I've seen that misses flying mounts.
We can definitely agree to disagree which is fine lol. I think it comes down to for me at least finding joy in a game again. I've never been one of those where I wanted everything to be done fast, whether it be tradeskill items, raids, or exploration. I actually enjoy how long it takes to make crafted items because I feel I worked for it and had to make choices. I like no flying because it forces me to actually learn zones and ways to get there and dungeon areas, etc.
I understand how some would feel limited with these features though.
And if they did allow flying it should never be just for one group or type of realm.. That's fucking stupid but that's the forums lol.
I admit I'm one of the people that misses grinds and hell levels and stuff from Everquest so some of this brings me back. Vanilla was still amazing to me and always will be. For me feeling that accomplishment in some areas is why I play. However for others being put into that mold can be unpleasant which I understand as well.
You can't have it both ways and just tell people to not use flying mounts if they want that experience. A major part of that experience is that everyone is in the same boat and it can't be bypassed. I'm one of those people that likes seeing more players out in the world running by on the same axis. Unfortunately the whole "get out into the game world" is kinda ruined by Garrisons and the sitting in queue mindset players in this game have. They don't go together at all.
FFXI had an amazing game world, minus the loading screens between zones of course. It would have been ruined by flying. It's not a fair comparison i know but i miss the old school MMO game worlds like XI and EQ. The danger of traveling has been completely eliminated, which is a shame. I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion as well but i hate flight paths. I miss the interdependence classes had. Need to go somewhere? Better find a mage to port you or start running. Todays players would have none of it though.
In short - i see both sides of the argument. While i'm in favor of a more old school approach, i don't think it really works in this game. You can't give players something as game changing as flying and then take it away and not expect huge backlash. Could you imagine if players were forced to run to the actual dungeons instead of being ported? Was this ever a thing btw? I seem to recall it may have been.
I too miss the days of EQ traveling but agree today's gaming world would have none of it. Having to get a SoW just to run through the Karanas for a corpse run or better yet you wandered into lesser faydark and brownies..ahhh memories LOL.
There was actual danger in doing stuff , even exploration.
Perhaps I am so fond of it because EQ was my first MMO so I feel I learned the "hard way". I do feel on average things were so dumbed down the no flying thing brings me back. Again it's just my personal preference in gaming experience.
As far as the dungeon thing goes - originally there was no LFG tool , no dungeon queue - you found groups by yelling in general or through your guild. Later on they made meeting stones which still exist in older dungeons ( through WoTLK maybe..) that would take 3 party members there to summon you. With the introduction of the LFG tool - which don't get me wrong I love - it made everything else obsolete. However - when a rez isn't available and in older dungeons left you in some random spot to run back there is nothing more annoying than not knowing where to go or waiting on the one person who has no clue how to get back. I'm a huge fan of knowing your zones and surroundings because you never know lol.
I played old school ffxi as well and sure when I had nothing else to do but spend an hour getting into a group and then an hour to get to the exp camp running was great. But now I like to go straight where I want and do what I enjoy. The journey really was never what I enjoyed. It's not horrible with all the flight points but gorgerand(sp) and spire can be pretty annoying.
I'm definitely part of the group that would much prefer to have flying back. It's fine if you only get it at max level, but taking away something that has been in the game for so long + all the flying mounts in the game already just seems wrong to me. My phoenix wants to fly, not hop awkwardly when I jump!
Conquest cap REQUIRES 200 conquest from Ashran win to fully cap.
Fuck...your....fucking...pvp....zone Blizzard
Same, I went from anticipation and excitement to a state of "Well i'll play this till FFXIV expansion hits".As much as I'm enjoying it, I'm disappointed in the end product, as I see how much better it should have been.
Not knocking this expansion, its great and far better then Cata and MoP combined. But it was worked up far too much by blizzard, and a lot of the things they were talking about apparently never made it in, got pushed back till 6.x etc etc
I was up late leveling an alt in Nagrand. You know it's seriously late when you start seeing the countdown for server restarts. So I'm getting ready to pack up and go back to the quest giver when I spot a rare on the mini map. I check it out, and it's a rare spawn that drops one of those mounts.
Time until restart: 3 minutes.
Pretty annoyed that rare shit that was alive before restarts is reverted to down after rolling restarts. Assholes.
I think they stealth nerfed tree respawn rates at laughing skull camp in Gorgrond. I used to cap out on timber in like 30 minutes and now i'm not getting 1/4 of that. It was good while it lasted i suppose.
