Helping a friend who just hit 80 grind emblems and pugged 2 DPS and they got all kinds of pissed off when I kicked them after the first run because the paladin was consecrating every mob (not tanking) and doing really shitty DPS.

uh, if his dps is bad that's fine...

but consecration is good enough on *single mobs* that as ret you glyph for it, if you kicked a ret pally for using consecrate in heroics, you really need to think twice before you make any more judgments on classes other than your own

You're right about Consecration but shitty dps is still shitty dps. I still can't fathom how some people do as little as 800 or so dps though.

My Uld25 pug the other week kicked a ret pally whose top 3 damaging abilities were, in order:

Melee
Seal of Command
Exorcism

Was consecrating groups and had 19k hp. My MH broke after the 2nd boss, so I just swapped to combat spec and used 1 dagger, still did 2.2k dps compared to his 1.4k and the lolock's 800.

he's supposed to consecrate groups. that's what consecrate is for. AND it's a dps tool even for single targets. If there's a group and he didn't consecrate, I would have kicked him. But if he did 1.4k he was doing something terribly wrong, as I was able to do 3k the day I hit 80 on a retadin in toc5 h.

How do you guys check dps, per mob/fight or in total? I only started doing normal and hc dungeons this weekend and I used recount to check dps. Initially to test if recount worked I tried it out on some normal monsters (the ones right outside sons of hodir camp) and I only got about 1k at most after when they died usually. Then when I tried it out in dungeons I still only started out with about 1k-1.5k dps which went up to 2.5k-3k after I got a few pieces of gear and only on mobs that last a while and are pretty much tank&spank like black champion p1 and p3.

I look at boss fights only. Trash doesn't mean much unless you're retarded and still doing 800 dps on it.

I laugh publicly in the face of anyone who brags about their amazing dps and they link overall damage to prove it. Anyone can inflate to 7k+ in naxx gear just by aoeing trash packs. Meanwhile I'm over here doing 6k to a single target.

It's fun to link 10k dps when others are still only managing to do 3k on trash packs but I certainly wouldn't brag about it. Anyone with half a brain can do it.

Yeah Onyxia is fun for number inflating, even as a melee with limited aoe; seeing numbers in the 20-30k range pop up on MSBT makes me giggle.

like said before, single-target DPS is what we go after.
and if you wanna check out your DPS, use the target-dummys in major cities, and keep fighting for atleast 3 minutes to emulate a boss-fight.
your DPS will either be crap or insanely high (trinket-procs making you one-shot the mobs) if you just run around killing random zone-mobs.

Pretty much my exact mentality. Over an entire instance, my DPS is probably from 2k-2.5k, but on bosses I'm always at -4k+. On trash/groups of trash, anything with a (strong) AoE is at a huge advantage over those without one.

I always look at my overall dps tbh lol. I like to compare to other classes overall dps. I usually only look at overall after the instance is over. But recount is usually on current fight.

Fuck this Turkinator bullshit. I'm getting up at 7 am tomorrow (that's like 4am server time) to do this. I really liked the guy this morning who was like, "Killing turkeys is even more fun since I got the Turkinator achievement!" in general chat in Elwynn, as he ran in front of me smiting a turkey. t(-.-t)

(At least all my toons will have 300+ cooking by the time this is over.)
