I should probably get a check up on them, last time I got it was about 4 years ago...

When I got my driver's license they gave me a restriction saying I had to have both side view mirrors installed at all times when I drive as well as glasses (lol that), but when I renewed it when I turned 21 they took it off (I somehow did better than before..guess my left eye was changing for the better?)

I remember to this day when I realized my left eye was out of whack.../sigh Might contemplate Lasik in a year once I get school fees paid for....

Also, I don't think many people here are afraid of the "Go blind in the future", but rather the fact it's a surgery, and there are no perfect scores in surgery (to my knowledge). I think this surgery is great for people that have lived almost their entire lives HAVING to wear glasses. For those that didn't need glasses (like myself, right eye dominant), it's probably not a necessary procedure to go into.

I had mine done back in 05. The deal with the lasers and different costs (as it was explained to me) was that depending on how bad your eyes are, they have to use different lasers, so if you were blind as a bat like me (20/600ish in each eye) you had to use the expensive one. I think it ran me about 950 per eye when I had it done, so 750 is a reasonable price.

I only had the dry eyes for about 2 days afterwards, what they did for me was put dissolvable plugs in my eyes so the tears could not drain, to help with the dryness. It's an interesting procedure to have done, being in the chair and awake, but not being able to feel as they slice up the eye and you get the smell like moths flying into a lamp coming from your eyes.

I recommend it for anyone, it is a great timesaver and moneysaver for the future and relatively safe.

i wanted to do it last year (and had the cash), but since my eyes changed a little bit (was 5 years since my previous pair of glasses), my doc said i'd have to wait minimum one year.
thanks kisada and everyone else! Im going in for a consultation tomorrow, but since im only 21, i might play it safe and do it exactly what you told me to do. My vision might change as it gets older so eh.

my fiance just had it done about a 6 months ago...said it was the best money she'd ever spent. it cost her 500 per eye...not sure what her prescription was though. her eyes watered a bit the first day, but were perfectly fine after that and haven't had any trouble since. my eyes aren't bad, but bad enough that i have to wear contacts, so i'm going to go get it done this summer.

This is the best thing ever. I had like -7 lenses and a slight astygmatism in one eye.

First of all, the procedure is not at all painful. It is like 2 minutes on each eye and you're done. Seriously. If it's the whole "things in your eye" hangup then get OVER it lol. I walked into the room and walked out 5 minutes later being able to see. Good stuff. The only pain I had was about an hour or so after when the anesthesia (given in eye drops) wears off- it felt like I was in a room full of cut onion for about half an hour.

There are, of course, risks. My eyes are definitely dryer than they used to be, but now it's only a problem when I'm really tired, or sometimes when the weather is really dry my eyes are scratchy early right when I wake up. If you already have dry eyes then they won't do the procedure (or they shouldn't). Also some people get halos around light that can take some time to disappear. I had them for a few months but that was it.

I had the procedure done and drove myself to the follow up exam the next day.

My work has absolutely insane benefits, especially when it comes to health. They were giving away Wii Fits the other day to anyone with proof they owned a Wii, but I just sold mine on Ebay XD

How old are you? Even after the Lasik your eyes will still get worse over time (if they were going to anyways), it's not the be-all-end-all for sight deterioration. So if your in your teens or early/mid 20's you may want to consider waiting a a little bit

It's free if you have to do it again. Something else to consider I suppose.

I forgot about this surgery, but wow the price has gone down a lot since I remember first looking into it in my late teens. I'm 21 now, but I haven't seen an optometrist in about 5 years (and I know my prescription is outdated at this point, I have some trouble seeing even with my glasses on) so that sucks if I'd have to wait another year. This thread has definitely renewed my interest in the procedure, though.

    edit: woo 600th post

I did not know this. This whole thread is interesting seeing as my girlfriend is considering getting Lasek. She has 500 something in both eyes, is really really blind. However, she is chinese, and while she is international chinese, she still thinks that everything is unnatural and is hesitant to get the surgery. She has heard a lot of bad stories, though i try to explain to her that every procedure will have positive and negative stories, and the negatives will be much more inclined to tell everyone their plight. I will have her read this thread for sure.

Lifetime warranty or warranty for "X" years?

Lifetime warranty. If you ever need the surgery again after your first surgery it's free, as many times as needed. For me this was included in the initial payment.

IIRC when my uncle had it down he had the option between two types of checkups. One for 5 years and one for the rest of his life. The difference was price so I'd assume most places offer this or build in the lifetime checkup into their initial price.

    oh before i forget

i had a standard check up done anyway just cause it had been so long, so if you plan that and on going outside right after, make sure you bring your own pair of shades.

they had to dilate my pupils and since i didn't bring my own sunglasses, i had to walk outside with a pair of ugly paper/plastic shades (you know, like the kind you'd get at a 3d movie). which, you know, was pretty awesome since i did my eyecare tests at my school health center, making me look like the dumbest person ever to set foot on campus.

Those glasses remind me of all the huge sunglasses the sorority girls wear here. They all want to look like Willy Wonka with the huge bug glasses. I seriously WTF at female fashion sometimes (see Uggs lol)
