Can we keep Texas and get rid of Arizona? That place is fail.

I just wish the hippies in Austin balanced out the retards in DFW.

It doesn't really matter because soon enough, we are going to be part of Mexico! And Canada too!

As for the topic itself. I've pretty much lost all faith in this country ever since Gwen Stefani left No Doubt. Maybe I can move to England and be surrounded by all the sexy British people.

Let's just give Mexico the entire southern chunk of the U.S. and be done with it.

They can have Cali too, if they can take it back.

Rofl All the hating on Texas in this thread is amazing. I honestly don't see a problem with having some creationism talked about in schools. Everyone should be allowed to make the choice of how the earth (and whatever else) came to be. Having either forced upon you without acknowledging the other is kinda stupid.

I'm not sure if the outrage is more about "This is fucking stupid" or "My child is not intelligent enough to ignore this shit".

It's a false choice. Religious fundamentalists deliberately confuse people like you to get religion into school curriculum. It sounds reasonable, but it's a trap.

That's not what these bills are designed to do. Nothing is currently preventing creationism 'discussion' from happening in the classroom, these laws will MANDATE that 'alternative theories' (read: creationism) is put into the curriculum. So much for not having things forced upon you.

Saying 'god this, don't question it, god that, don't question it' is not how you teach kids critical thinking and problem solving. It's bad science and bad educational theory. Fuck that.

Because our children should be worried which things their teachers tell them are factually supported right?

"Go to school and learn little children, but remember everything your teachers say is probably bullshit".

I am all for creationism being taught in school. As long as it is in a religious studies class. This shit is as far from science as you can possibly get.

And to Wafik: I would go into politics, but I have a nasty habit of telling the truth too much. I wouldnt last one week.

i bet you like filthy greasey handjobs in truckstop restrooms. they do have the hotcarling academy though, where people learn to buttfuck, but they don't have blowjobs there because they are uncircumsized and that is just disgusting so they have to buttfuck which is also disgusting because that extra forskin traps all the germs and the poop, and the buttfucking residue within and that is why british people have bad teeth, amen.

Science education is about teaching theories, not dogma. If you don't understand the difference, you have no business deciding what schools should be teaching.

Not to outshine your usual negativity, but that statement is much more applicable to learning in schools than you think (and not necessarily from a factual statement point of view).

It's a good thing then that the usual public school curriculum includes such lessons like Galileo vs. The Church, instructing our kids to question old modes of thinking about the world.

If only parents would pick up where that left off.

So because our current system isnt perfect, we should abandon all standards and let our teachers teach complete fallacies and factually devoid premises to our children?

Here's something about all of this that I find incredibly sad.

I was thinking back to my years in high school (public school too). The area of Texas I grew up in is majority hispanic population (about 85% hispanic), I myself am 1/2 white, 1/2 hispanic. My biology teachers every year of my 4 years of high school were hispanic as well, and not once did the word "creationism" come up whenever we spoke about the theory of evolution, except once when a kid (a WHITE Christian kid) during my freshman year brought it up, then proceeded to try and tell us, AND the teacher that that was the way it was, and to question it is a sin against god. Needless to say, at the end of the school day, we tracked him down and beat the living fecal matter out of him.

So why is it that HISPANIC people know not to bring up religion in the classroom, and it's WHITE people that are trying to force feed it to us? Just some for thought.

Mexicans look for any reason to beat up the white kid who, at the end of the period, raises his hand with a stupid question and threatens to extend class beyond the end-of-day bell.

Not disagreeing with you. I was making more of a statement as to the inefficiency of the current system. I understand children in many situations need to literally be instructed on how to absorb and process information, and how to interact with their peers.

Looking back though, how much of the stuff you were taught in school was completely pointless? To add to that point, how many teachers did you have that were either not very good, or downright terrible? I can remember quite a few over the years.

I wish school board positions were only open to people with degrees in education. It seems any loudmouth, half-wit with a degree in dental science can get elected.
