    Black Mage in Salvage

Hey I was just wondering what a Black Mages role is in Salvage. I searched forums but over 500 pages came up and couldn't find anything. If anyone could post what a typical blm would do in salvage that would be great!

    Useless in general.

Everything they can do can be done by other key jobs: stuns by melees (frogs bhoot flayer), sleeps and nukes by rdm. They can be usefull on bosses though provided they get gear.

The only time I have used a BLM is for bhaflau 4F and unweakened boss. BLM can take 1/3 of each gear's HP with am2+tier 4, in a few seconds, without feeding tp for restorals. And manafont can easilly take the last 10% of the boss when it goes in crazy mode. But then again, so does chainspell blizzard III.

Yeap, BLM shines most in BR in my opinion, both for Gears and Boss etc, besides that my group never really use BLm for Salvage, it happened a few times only. I know some groups love to bring a BLM however so it works if you want, but you dont need it.
Just as you dont "need" any other job in Salvage but THFs

Blm can be handy as long as they're not constantly bitching about cells or the fact thy're in a no refresh pt. Typical blm they're handy for stuns, spike damage, backup cures, na's, and sleeping. Not necessary but not too shabby if u have one that knows their role and doesnt Complain

I thought I read "black man in salvage" at first.

Still, it is important that no one feels un-important because of lack of cells whether due to drops or whether due to amount of people being there.

That said, I've been along with a few pick ups arranged by BLMs (trying for Morrigans), one thing I really would like to see BLMs stop doing is:

Stunning everytime you get hate. It makes it harder to get hate off you...

Stun incredibly early and then get hate and curing yourself (if possible) and getting more hate, and then dying.

A lot of them (the ones I've been with) still seem to have the solo mindset. A big nuke followed by a stun isn't going to help much more, especially of the mob isn't anywhere near death.

Because that is how BLMs nowdays works apparently, since everyone just solo their way to 75 and have no idea about mechanics when working with others until bringing it for events and re-learn alot @ 75.

Forced to solo, BLMs nowdays sucks alot in my experience (can be said about several jobs obviously but still).

I've always preferred a 7 man setup including a BLM.

    Start with PTs setup as

PT 1 - MNK MNK THF RDM BRD BLM

    PT 2 - WHM

Then later when the WHM actually needs refresh, swap the BLM over to the 2nd PT and the WHM in the main.

I found BLM most helpful in Arrapago Remnants (to open with nukes on the QQTH's / Astrologers along with the gears to pop the double QQTH's) and Bhaflau Remnants for the gears that warp in 1 minute if not dead to weaken the boss / open the rampart.

I've been blm to just about every run of salvage I've done since it came out and it's workable in every zone except Zhay, although it's best in Bhaf and Arra. Getting your mp back every floor helps alot since you don't have to rest too much, just nuke the piss out of NMs and go up.

used to just nuke gears, stun restoral, chorus etc, mainly stack Ele DoTs on Zhao frogs as none of us were ever able to stun Charmga >.>

For the most part as mentioned the big thing with blm is stun. I've regularly came as blm by choice since in terms of stunning I tend to be a lot more reliable on stopping mobs ws. Stacking full ele dots, poison II definitely does help bring down NMs and even boss mobs while you ride your stun macro trying to prevent discoids, mortal revs or charmga. I am guessing a lot of people use their melee to stun any of that crap but having someone that knows their shit and has intuition about stunning mob tp moves can speed up many aspects through salvage specially allowing melee to freely use their tp for dmg.

Not sure why zhay would be any different then any of the other zones to be honest. Been able to clear all the toads and the boss consistently for god knows how long now 0doing standard merit party and blm as outside 7th. We tend to toss the thf in the outside party and have the blm in the main to help cure tanks while maintaining dots and stun. Usually tend to toss a cure III on the most hurt tank right after the boss does a ws and goes right back onto stun duty.

I never liked it. No gear at all, and no sj makes blm alot more sucky then normal. Even in arra I end up with weapons if we're lucky, and some gear eventually. Stuff like sleepga/stun is great, but in Zhay theres not alot to sleepga (top floor gears dont sleep, and big mamool links would probably rape you when they're up) so that drops usefulness down a bit.

You're all smoking crack. BLM has its place in Salvage. They're DDs that can stay out of melee range, do crowd control, and literally need one cell to be useful.

In Arrapago, use them to open rat fights with a nuke and if you get Hermes/Fanatic's drink they can super-tank pull the sixth floor. General strategy was to use Hermes' then Fanatic's and agro the shit out of everything, then -aga III, Manafont, -aga III, Sleepga. Knocks a ton of HP off everything and clusters them up by the party.

In Bhaflau, give them last priority on gear and just use them as extra DDs who don't get hit with Antigravity/etc. When we got lucky on drinks I could put out some pretty substantial damage here.

In Zhayolm, BLM is pretty worthless and you shouldn't really be going with more than 6-7 people anyway. Use a well-hasted BLU for Head Butt spam and Stoneskinga.

In Silver Seas, BLM is kind of worthless as a DD. However, they're useful for Rampart crowd control on floor 4 and for staying out of range and doing good damage on GG3.

I cant think of a place where sleepga is needed. rdm whm brd all can sleep. A rdm can solo sleep all four doors in SS with whm and brd assisting if he is in trouble.

As a career BLM with all the toys, I say there's no place for BLM in salvage.
There is no situation in any salvage where BLM is absolutely needed for crowd control. The worst crowds are Zhayolm floor 3, Arrapago floor 6, and SSR rampart pull, and those are handled as well or better with Phalanx II, a good puller, and RDM/WHM/BRD on sleep duty.
Any situation in which BLM damage matters, you'd be better off taking a MNK instead. MNK doesn't have to rest between hits. They're useful with 0 cells. The damage an extra DD does during the first 90 minutes of salvage more than makes up for anything any BLM except Kaeko can do to a chariot or any NM.
Even stuns are handled better by melees. Try a soboro SAM with good reflexes.
Use the right tool for the job. Taking a BLM to salvage is like.. playing FFXI on a PS2.

Odd kuno i tend to end up with SJ and just phalanx SS up and run in and aggro link the mamools so the DD can plow through mob to mob. Trying to hash through my head right now things from zhaylom that might be more of a drag down. I know I'll hardcore stun for those gears. Maybe we spend different times on floors? Cause we do pull extra mobs from other rooms while we clear the normal path. I know i'll usually end up with sj magic hands body back (rings and or ranged if those are the duped cells). Sometimes end up with weapon if we are 6 manning or if the 7th is a cor.
