Squier Strat Affinity series. Didn't want to go all out and buy a Fender Stratocaster when I'm just barely learning, so did my reading and found a great beginner's guitar. Has a good feel and nice sound to it. Of course I plan on upgrading as I get better, but that's far off.
You cannot go wrong with Fender. I bought a brand new strat this last November and have been loving it since (my previous one was a beautiful transparent green, but now I have a black maple). Fender's last a very long time, as my previous one lasted me a good solid 8 years and was still kicking after seeing hell and back.
Hell, I've had my guitar on roof's overnight in the rain, bottom of a pool, and once taken completely apart as my friend wanted to figure out how it was wired. Fender's are built like you wouldn't believe. And props on the maple neck, the only rosewood neck I can stand is on the new Les Paul Standard which is narrowing in on $3000 here.
