PLD Help (To blink or not to blink)

I'm kinda stuck on whether I should be using full gear swaps when tanking on PLD. For example, should I be idle in melee gear, then swap to full enmity gear (Iron Ram for example) for JAs? Then for magic like Flash and Reprisal, I'm guessing I would switch to full haste gear to get recast times down ASAP.

I've been told that blinking gear on and off could make it difficult for mages to cast stuff on me, but I've also been told the opposite. How should a PLD typically handle gear swaps (for tanking hard monsters like Omega or HNMs)?

This times a million. I blink very often on NIN, all of my mages have <stpt> or <stal> macros. If we recruit a new mage I tell them to change them if they don't have blinkmenot.

Yes - blink.
No - don't blink.

Try it out, if the mages can't handle it, then try not to blink too often if at all. It might mean being more efficient but if it gets you killed often because your support is terrible it isn't worth it.

If your mages don't use them, fly to their house and punch them in the junk for being dumb.

There's no excuse for dying and causing a wipe, either. I agree with you 100%. Gimp moronmages, however, do not. General consensus: blinking gear is well worth it, the gains are extremely notable. Is there not a solution? There is. Talk to the mages. Talk again. Then practice. Bring 3 tanks to like Proto-Omega (easily tanked, no stress). Have the blinky guy maintank it, have the others maintain a steady level of hate.

Any good PLD will always blink it's just that and if your mages cant keep up I suggest getting new ones. Just means they are lazy and dont want to play their job as best as they can, its not hard to change macros to /ma "Cure" <stal>
