I'm not sure what playing on PC and Windower have to do with <stpt> and <stal>. In fact, since I imagine pretty much every PS2 and Xbox user has a controller, those two commands should be incredibly easy for them to use. Alliance targeting is one of the main reasons I kept the controller when I switched to PC.
I've been pretty resistant to blinking as a tank for a long time, mainly for two reasons: The first being that it drove a lot of supports crazy to be blinking in and out. The other is that I'm a macro spammer. I always hit macros to figure out what my remaining recasts were, and to see if I could get it off a second or two early despite what the timer said. I'd be furiously changing sets trying to figure out if my timers were up or not.
The debate was about efficiency, and if you ever get diminishing returns to a point of hampering because your supporters could not target you because you kept blinking. People would throw out things like BlinkMeNot and stuff, but that simply wasn't an available option for everybody. With the new targeting methods, however, it allowed your supports to target you despite if you materialized or not.
That has kind of put to bed the idea of diminished returns on efficiency. You can blink to your hearts content and have completely different sets of gear for different actions, and your support has a way of targeting you. It winds up being great, because you find purpose for things you might have put away before/not acquired.
Not that I've started to. I should, especially since I've migrated to Win7 and started to redo all my macros, and I like being the best I can. There's this nagging part in the back of my head though that says, "Well, you got to this point in the game thus far without blinking. Do you really need to start now?"
I don't tank anything more difficult than stuff in Dynamis (if that. Things die really quickly there), and now-a-days the occasional lesser sky god. Without a doubt, I could be more efficient, even for this kind of stuff. I've reconciled with a happy medium long ago of equip swaps without blinking. It's always suited me well. I think I'll start equip swapping like mad if I ever do anything more difficult than that.
So, tl;dr, do what you think suits you. You will be more efficient if you blink, without a doubt. If you like winning parses and micromanaging, then you'll be a better tank by gear-swapping like mad too. But, in all honesty, being smart is the best thing you can be when it comes to a tank. If you don't understand what blinking can do for you, or trying to find a happy medium between shield skill/haste/etc., then do some research.
I wrote all this, and then as I hit preview, I remembered I actually macro in Valor Boots for Sentinel. So, yeah. You better fucking blink, or you'll be a gimpass motherfucking cockfaggot. And you don't want to be that... do you?
Who cares. Make a Cure IV macro that drops your HP, you don't even need to blink in or out to accomplish this.
How did this become a race issue, we aren't in spam. . . .
Blink or die mother fucker mother fucker blink or die.
Blink your fuckin' gear or I'll stick a needle in your eye.
(Nobody will get this reference, nobody.)
I love you
I like how I said it.
They don't want me to blink because they can't be bothered to do their job effectively?
Ok, I won't blink, and I will half ass my job, which will result in their lazy bitch asses tanking.
Only thing is, when they panic and try to swap into -dmg gear, I'll still be able to cure them, because I use <stpt> and <stal>.
Suck Less™
Blink more, suck less.
If you die the problem doesn't come from a mage but from you.
If you're not blinking, regardless of job, you're doing it wrong.
To add to this, if you you are on pc and use spellcast (even a blank template that doesn't swap any of your gear) you can use shorthand commands.
For instance instead of typing /ma "cure iv" neosutra you could type
//ma cureiv neosutra
//cureiv sutra
//cure4 neo
all of these commands would cast the spell cure iv on neosutra. Yes, if you type an impartial name it tries to best match it for people in your alliance first and then people outside of it as well.
Really handy.
Like anyone would really cure me.
But ya, I LOVE that part of spellcast, and oddly enough I just recently found out about it.
It's kept the long as name bastards from dying in our last few events a few times.
i tried blinking on every action for awhile and i ran into a few problems..no idea if its my pc or connection thats the issue
first off, if i blink a lot i dont see dark ixion attack on my screen. it just stands there while i lose shadows. i also dont see a lot of the charging animations for wraith and spear when i blink a lot. it just stands still on my screen
the other and most annoying issue is once every few minutes i'll hit my macro and everything seems to go off..but nothing actually does
for example, i'll hit my ichi macro and all my equipment changes, i'll get that [Utsusemi: Ichi 0:00] recast message but ichi doesnt actually go off. i end up just standing there
edit: not getting any unable to cast errors or anything like that either!
anyone know what might be causing these things?![]()

Blinking up to a certain point is beneficial. But blinking every action is stupid.
- <stpt> and <stal> DOES NOT handle outside alliance targeting
- Blinking excessively does mess up timing of magic and shadows and make animations disappear just like Jimbo describes.
- Blinking in every macro also causes unnecessary blinking while spamming macro's and annoying as hell if timers aren't up.
Best advice is to blink on JA's. Make invisible gear swaps for self cure, flash, cure, and utsusemi. Swap around between idle, hate, haste, shield, mdb, etc manually throughout the fight based on what you need at any given time. Don't put these into every single macro so you blink like a christmas tree. You will be just as efficient without the blinking.
no. also, shitstorm inc from neosutra for that comment, by the way, what ls are you on pandemonium, not with these guys I hope

(fulltime on dark ixion, not blinking rulz, and he was 75 at one point)
If you're outside ally, you're probably a back up healer, make fucking dedicated name curing macros.
One macro: /ta <stpc>
Second macro: /ma "Cure IV" <lastst>
I'm not a healer job, I'm a paladin, if I can figure out and adjust to this because of how much better it is, you should have been doing it already, or why am I working my ass off tanking for you?
