    POL password.

Are the PlayOnline passwords saved to any certain file in the POL folder? Reason being my friend can log into his account because the PW is saved to POL but he doesn't remember the actual password.

Is it possible for him to send me that certain file to transfer his POL info to mine? Much like you can do with macros by copying certain files from the "USER" folder in the FFXI folder.

So by sending me his files it will create his user on my POL start up menu so I can just click and log in. Given I have a free spot.

If he's the original account owner and has the registration codes you can just call SE and they reset the password, takes like 5 minutes just need basic information. If not I think you're SOL, my friend and I tried to do something similar a while back and couldn't get it to work. Worth a shot I suppose but I wouldn't bet on it.

This may not work in your case, but if he uses Firefox and he saved his passwords (clicked remember when visiting) at the LS community site or Friend's List+, then you could go to:

tools > options > security tab > saved passwords > show passwords

Then you can search or go down the list.

If you attempt to copy the entire FFXI directory over to another computer the IDs and settings will be copied but the game will recognize that it was copied over. It will not save stored PWs and it will scan the entire game for file changes when you first attempt to log in. If you copy over all registry changes from that computer as well that are associated with FFXI, it will still save the stored PWs and will not attempt to scan for changes.

As to what all the necessary registry info is, I don't remember. I did this a long time ago when I had lost my POL CDs, and I needed the registry + game info on a new system. Copying over just the game files (which I usually did just to avoid 5 hours of patching) didn't allow me to run the game because I never installed it (which I usually did prior to copying the files for the registry changes associated with installing the game). I then looked up info concerning what registry changes I needed and found some story about a military guy that copied the game onto an iPod and ran it off that and he had a list of the required registry info you'd need to copy over. I did this and it worked, but I did notice that unlike usual, it didn't erase my stored passwords.

I'd say your best solution, like mentioned above, is to contact POL for a PW reset. If that fails, before logging in, delete the last character of the PW (or first) and replace it with letters/numbers you may suspect it to be, and just cycle through the options until it logs on. Once you figure out one character, go to the next and so on until your friend remembers the PW or you crack the entire thing. Just keep in mind you can only fail a password attempt 3 times every 5-15 min or so.
