    Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Speakers & Headsets,Speakers,5.1,

If I could accommodate the size of the Z 5500s I would for sure, but I am happy with my tiny Bose companion 3s I do have a pair of Z 640 Logitech speakers sitting in my closet though, 5.1 selling on craigslist for 40$

THX is a sham. You will never get THX sound unless you have THX people come out and certify your room you listen in is THX approved. Just get a set that sounds good to you. Your own ear is the best way to tell whats good and bad.

Yeah THX just means George Lucas approves, and he approved Episode 1 so who cares what he thinks..

Is it worth it to buy a set of 5.1 speakers ? I wanted to have one for a long time but I only play FFXI on my computer and never watch any movie. I figured it would be kind of useless for now :/

And Buck, those speakers are really nice but pricy! Then again, I paid over 1.2k for my home theater speakers a few years ago and it was worth it so it's probably worth it like you say.

I prefer to use an amp/reciever and real speakers, and at a $300+ price point you can easily afford to do so. Main thing to remember is that not all speakers are good for near-field use, and of course, not all are shielded >_>

THX is a certification process, not a format. Basically, if everything is THX certified, including the movie (or whatever) then the output should be as intended. It can be an indicator of capability (as they don't tend to certify complete crap), but lack of certification doesn't mean a product isn't as good or better than something that is.
