Is there a better way to skill-up without requiring babysitting than Campaign? So far it's been good (got Axe from 100 to 150 in one session at Garlaige (S), and I can keep G.Axe up despite Level Sync without any issues), but as I get NIN closer to 37, getting Axe all the way up to 200+ while chasing mobs around seems like a daunting prospect.

Is a 6-hit build possible at all, pre-Rajas Ring, for WAR/SAM on a budget? I'm working on CoP missions, but my progression is slow without a static.

Initially, this is what I've worked out:

Base TP return of 13.7% from Gawain's Axe/Perdu Voulge

Store TP bonus of 15%
+1 from Ecphoria Ring
+1 from Chivalrous Chain

(Is this the correct formula?)

13.7 + (13.7 x 0.17) = 16.029, floored to 16%

6.25 hits for first 100%
20% return needed after Raging Rush to get to 100% in 5

P.S. Barring run-around-the-lake-to-compete-with-two-other-parties-and-a-soloer-for-worms parties, I actually enjoy my time in Qufim. It's nice to be able to do a page or two there between parties for NIN (and previously, SAM).

Thanks for the advice. Lately I've been subbing NIN for convenience, but I miss Hasso. I picked up a Gawain's Axe as a precursor to Perdu Voulge, and I'll probably rock a Tabarzin/Iron Ram Pick combination until I can make my way toward Maneater/Juggernaut.

As I climb through the 60's and party in Aht Urhgan areas, I'm seeing a lot of content that was either unreleased when I was originally playing, or I never got the chance to see. I'm actually really looking forward to blowing Maat up for the first time ever. On the other hand, ZM5 sounds like a huge pain in the ass, and I still need to finish my Promyvions :/

FFXI almost borders on too much content at this point lol. I was only really gone for six months or so, but I was fairly inactive before that for awhile, and I feel swamped. Between needing to finish the final bit of ToAU story, climbing nyzul, doing assault rank, and even getting a start on WotG (and now a new scenario.... sheesh), I have no clue where to even begin. And this is all on top of 6 LS events a week and needing to get certain pieces of gear and tons of merits.

Ah well, at least there's more soloable content now that I can work on between getting these things done.

Hope everything works out for you, man. If you find the right group of people, and a really nice linkshell, the game won't always be boring and you'll have something to do most of the time. I remember on my old character, I'd spend countless hours just sitting around in Whitegate, but conversating with my linkshell and not getting bored whatsoever. :D

Taking NIN to 75? You have way more patience than I could ever muster, haha. I just beat Maat after a friend graciously helped me farm a testimony, so I'm looking forward to the home stretch. What I'm not looking forward to is farming for the Hakutaku pop item, as well as figuring out how to get the gil for the rest of my realistically-obtainable gear upgrades.

I don't know about you, but when FFXI has become such a huge part of my life that I've been playing it for many years, have had my fun, made my friends, and enjoy the looks and feel of the game, then yea, a sappy little story will make you cry.

I'm bumping my topic because I recently hit 75 and, as mentioned earlier, the breadth of content is such that I really have no idea where to start.

The only swaps I have for WS right now are Warwolf Belt and Sipahi Turban. I know that I need access to Sky and Sea, to hit Second Lieutenant, and climb Nyzul, but I'm not really sure about the order in which I should approach these things, nor really the best way to go about it (WG shouts? Apply to an entry-level endgame LS? Both?) Where would I find the most substantial upgrades for time invested?

I'm also trying to put together a group to burn seals for gil so that I can work on some AH upgrades, and I'm stockpiling AN with the hopes of getting into some ANNM groups.

Sky would probably be the best endgame to start with for you.

It's easy to farm and some upgrades you would find there would be , Byakko's Haidate/Byakko's Axe/N.feet/N.hands

I would say whatever goal you decide to choose, keep your eye out for assault shouts in between other activities. Assault is a great system, very unique little missions unlike anything else in ffxi. Some are atrocious but many are quite fun. If you can manage to slowly climb up to rank4 assault you will set yourself apart from about 30% of the population that is too damn stubborn to do it and the assault points will pour in.

If anything it's not the "too much content," it's the interdependency that screws things up.


What I mean is like... using assault points for salvage, and tags for nyzul is fine... if you did the things as they came out, in the "intended" order. If you were already max rank or close, and had decent points when people started doing salvage and nyzul, you're money.

If you're sitting there right now needing assault rank to buy IS shit, points to buy assault gear, points to be able to do salvage, and tags to do nyzul, it's a little silly the way it's set up.

Find a better main weapon asap. Byako axe (95dmg, same delay I think) rot daily in sky, and I'm sure you can find someone to give it to you. On a long run, aim for Perdu Gaxe, but Byakko is the easiest/fastest alternative for now

If you have a couple of friend, you should be able to get to sky in 5-6h starting from rank 0, so do that first.

For the gear, get some dusk boots (or unicorn) and dusk glove. It wouldnt take more than 2 days to farm those items. Barone pants are cheap, and better for you right now imo.


Imo, the best for you right now would be:
#1: Get sky (Zilart mission) for byakko axe, and try to join a sky LS for haidate
#2: Rank up in assault. You will be able to get a chivalrous and potent belt in the process, and you will need those ranks to buy Perdu g.axe eventually. Don't bother with Nyzul or salvage yet (I guess you could climb nyzul or leech a few gears if you have the opportunity, but getting group right now with your current gear will be hard)

#3 CoP mission There is some sweet item you can get from CoP, but it takes a long time usually, so you might want to do the easiest sky mission first.
