The Last Remnant has a 66% on metacritic and the user rating is equally mediocre. Is there something I'm missing?

What I mean is do you consider a 66 good or bad? The PC version of this game is x10 better than the 360 version, which I originally had.

I see what you mean about a 66% being arbitrary. I would typically consider 66% to be lackluster, but the game seems to have a decent fan base which made me curious.

I mostly meant: I wasn't sure if people were buying it for some other reason. Similar to if I were to ask why ArmA was selling so well for another generic fps.

I totally can't find that pic showing rating scales of the past and rating scales of the present where 6/10 or 60/100 was good years ago, but nowawdays anything below 9/10 or 90/100 is "mediocre" by todays inflated scales.

As for reviews, my research these days includes going on youtube and skimming a few reviews and some let's plays. Review sites are obsolete with nearly endless supply of actual gamers to get opinions from instead of inflated scores from ad sponsored (read bribed) sites.

Got LIMBO for 2.49, I've read it's short, but I guess for 2.49 If it gives me 5 hours of entertainment I can't complain, the game looks pretty enough

I would just considering looking at a number score of any game and using that as a sole reason not pick something up as faulty. Looking at scores alone 66% looks sorta low, but a 3/5 still looks decent, however, when converted to Metacritic's score it's a 60%. That's why I find numbered reviews so annoying they don't convey any meaning expect at extreme highs or lows.

And, really, how would inflated scores reflect anything other than the game being worse than represented? And how does that apply to the 100 consumer reviews on metacritic that roughly come out to be the same? Are they not gamers to ask? I mean, I'm not knocking the game because I'm genuinely interested in why it appears to have a healthy fan base here.

Yeah, was just taking a jab at review sites, not you.

As for me, usually on a forum like this, usually a bunch of people screaming "this game is awesome" on here is all I need from BG, then I hop over to YouTube and confirm if its something I'd like.

In the end though, I liked Last Remnant. It has shortcomings for sure and I'd love to have seen a successor that took the series a step further, but alas, there is none.

Edit: Oh, and one other thing. Not that its a gameplay selling point, but it was defintely a very interesting choice to make like half of the game optional and totally missable. Entire towns and dungeons can be completely missed. That kind of open endedness is rare these days.

Oh, me too. But I will usually check the consumer section of metacritic, too, if only for the convenience of pooled opinions from people who've played it. And for this game, it made me do a double take, so I came back here.

You don't even have to buy the rest of that indie bundle, just buy Jamestown if you don't like the other games in there.

I've had my eye on Jamestown for a while, so this is an excellent excuse to pick it up. The video on the store page knows exactly how to pander to me.
