Bioshock 2 on Steam, "Other Requirements" section:

Other Requirements: Initial installation requires one-time internet connection; Ability to save game, earn achievements, receive title updates and online play requires log-in to Games for Windows LIVE; software installations required including Microsoft Visual C++2008 Runtime Libraries, Games for Windows LIVE client, Games for Windows LIVE Client Patch, Sony DADC SecuROM, Microsoft DirectX.

Steam + SecuROM + Games for Windows LIVE? Fuck off. I was actually considering buying a 4-pack of this to split with some friends, but I'm definitely not any more.

Tropico 3 66% off until Monday. That's more than it was during the Christmas sale. I'm heavily considering buying it cause the demo was fucking pimp. Some other games are $2 too but I haven't played them so I dunno.

Never played X-com, and its lolIGN, but last year they named it the #1 PC game of all time, so getting it and the four sequels etc for $2 seems worth the risk.

X-Com is very oldschool, it takes awhile to get into and understand/abuse the tech tree, and be sure to tweak the ini files to increase CPU cycles since they underclocked the emulated PC they're DOS-BOXing it under.

Definately getting that and Freedom Force though, will be a good nostalgia trip.

There should a file within the game directory that's something along the lines of a config.ini or .conf file. For the original two X-Coms, it helps to open that with notepad, find the line that says "cycles=", and double the value it's given.

Makes the gameplay more smooth (especially in the earth view), although a side-effect is the mouse cursor animates like it's Speedy Gonzales. But hey, that's games made in the last decade and a half for ya that don't have any means of frame-limiting.

Also, expect to get your ass handed to you a lot your first few plays. Game is random, and has no problem throwing shit at you that you can seriously not handle from within the first couple hours of playing. But that's alien invasions for ya.

[EDIT] Just bought the pack myself, the file in question is dosbox.conf under /Steam/SteamApps/Common/Xcom Ufo Defense. 16000/32000 cycles should be fine.

At any rate, it wouldn't have killed the publisher to scan the damn manual for easy access in Steam. I forgot what half these buttons do.

The manuals ARE on Steam, but for whatever reason they're not in the right-click context menu in the client.

    UFO Defense: http://store.steampowered.com/manual/7760/

Titan Quest gold 75% off mid-week sale, $5. Pretty decent deal.

The first one always keeps my attention longer than the others. I end up going on a Xcom binge once a year or so. Even though the graphics are outdated, it's still a lot of fun.

I usually go all Battle Royal and name all of my soldiers after people I know and see who actually survives. (Even though I've played the game a ton, I've never finished it. It gets pretty difficult).

As for play style, I'd say it's like the Great Grand father of Valkrie Chronicles.
