I'm late to the party, but it's pretty much the only game in the Ys Series that doesn't have a remastered version. You pretty much just run into enemies to damage them. The trick is to hit them off center so you damage them but they don't damage you.

The game is pretty retro, both good and bad.

Ehh, saw this opinion so many times on this board so I ended up picking this up.

I thought it was pretty bad and coulnd't get much more than 5-6 or so hours out of it.

I found it to be a very poor God of War clone, that happened to have Patrick Stewart (awesome) reading out of a book for you (not awesome).

Basically I found that your attacks don't have much affect on basic foes, let alone the elites and bosses. If you try to do combos, you die. It's as simple as that. The enemies will just stroll through your attacks and rip you to pieces. 95% of Gabriel's moves are worthless. You can only do a couple of quick hits followed by a dodge. Repeat that 1000 times until you win, followed up with memorizing QTE's. Ugh.

The only really effective move is the counter-block. That staggers pretty much everything. It's the only way you beat the elites without taking forever, but its pretty useless on the fodder because even if you stagger one the other twenty will get you.

The camera is also horrible imo. It's not fun to continuously get hit by enemies off screen that you don't even know are there.

So idk, I read somewhere that w/e studio designed this game wasn't even making a Castlevania game, but some other shit, then that failed and Konami came in and bought it out or w/e, and put their stamp on it. Really seems to show as there is nothing new or original as this game borrows heavily from earlier games and does absolutely nothing new and doesn't take advantage of progressing all the "borrowing" that it did into something innovating.

Remastered in what way? It had a graphical facelift on the DS which added (simple looking) 3d environments.

I wasn't that big on the first two compared to Felghana at any rate. They were fun, but they're also really simple.

Redoing the game mechanics. Ys III was originally a side scroller RPG like Zelda II then Felghana remastered it to be a top down hack 'n slash. I never tried the DS version of Ys I/II, but I heard that had manual attacks.

took me 3 hours to download it (presumeably due to Steams very hard dry humping because of left 4 dead 2) but i really want the skyrim legendary pack for 10,99 since i had the ps3 version the dlc came out really late and i never bothered with it and i was going to grab FTL since i just love that game

That's a pretty good deal, just make sure you're not buying the ancient games that have been $5 on steam (morrowind, fallout 3, etc).
