There's enough people bitching on the forums about it to the point where Valve will have to implement one or get a shitstorm when they mandate the upgrade. They set up a forum with four sub-categories for it, so I do hope they listen to the community, given 25 million some people use Steam, so they may as well see what we dislike/like about it.

So far I'm loving the new features, but overall, the new look just takes way to much fucking space. I'm hoping they'll come out with a template system eventually so I could just create a custom arrangement of the interface for myself.

Also loving that they ditched IE in favour of webkit for website rendering. Loads faster now, well, for me anyways since my gaming rig still has IE6 installed.

Is this an optional update or a beta?

Looks cool with a couple games, but seems like it'd increase memory usage and be annoying with 40+ games. I'm sure it still has "mini game list" mode though, right?

I've done every steam update so far, and I've yet to have it make the change. I think you have to download something on top of normal updates. Which is good, because I much prefer the minimalistic nature that steam has going for it now.

It's an opt-in beta for now, I assume it'll be a mandatory update eventually. There are several different styles of game list, Kaisha's first screenshot (outside of spoiler) isn't something you're forced to use, that's with everything turned up pretty large.

I'm opting in solely for the fact that it uses webkit as the internal browser now, IE can fuck off. That's always bothered me. All the other changes are just bonuses.

Word has it that there's a Mac version of Steam in the works.

At any rate, any idea if the browser applies to Steam games that embed websites also?

FYI, certain games (it happened to MW2 for me) begin to download a massive, unnecessary update after changing to the beta client. It made the game unplayable, and required a reinstall. I'm sure it'll be fixed soon, but for now I wouldn't switch to the beta if you own MW2. Looks and feels purdy, though.

/v/ is pretty far on it already.

I'm doing it for the sake of the achievement, but that music is going to drive me nuts.

[EDIT] God, some of the locations to where the radio triggers are a bitch to find.

Super Laser Racer is a real fun racing game, and for just two dollars is a real good buy. need a gampad for proper gaming experience though. The rest don't look all that interesting to me, outside of bullet candy and Altitude. Anyone play it and have an opinion?

Steam and source coming to mac.

    Spoiler: show

Leading Gaming Service Expands to Mac Platform

Valve announced today it will bring Steam, Valve's gaming service, and Source, Valve's gaming engine, to the Mac.

Steam and Valve's library of games including Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Portal, and the Half-Life series will be available in April.

"As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients," said Gabe Newell, President of Valve. "The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services."

"Our Steam partners, who are delivering over a thousand games to 25 million Steam clients, are very excited about adding support for the Mac," said Jason Holtman, Director of Business Development at Valve. "Steamworks for the Mac supports all of the Steamworks APIs, and we have added a new feature, called Steam Play, which allows customers who purchase the product for the Mac or Windows to play on the other platform free of charge. For example, Steam Play, in combination with the Steam Cloud, allows a gamer playing on their work PC to go home and pick up playing the same game at the same point on their home Mac. We expect most developers and publishers to take advantage of Steam Play."

"We looked at a variety of methods to get our games onto the Mac and in the end decided to go with native versions rather than emulation," said John Cook, Director of Steam Development. "The inclusion of WebKit into Steam, and of OpenGL into Source gives us a lot of flexibility in how we move these technologies forward. We are treating the Mac as a tier-1 platform so all of our future games will release simultaneously on Windows, Mac, and the Xbox 360. Updates for the Mac will be available simultaneously with the Windows updates. Furthermore, Mac and Windows players will be part of the same multiplayer universe, sharing servers, lobbies, and so forth. We fully support a heterogeneous mix of servers and clients. The first Mac Steam client will be the new generation currently in beta testing on Windows."

Portal 2 will be Valve's first simultaneous release for Mac and Windows. "Checking in code produces a PC build and Mac build at the same time, automatically, so the two platforms are perfectly in lock-step," said Josh Weier, Portal 2 Project Lead. "We're always playing a native version on the Mac right alongside the PC. This makes it very easy for us and for anyone using Source to do game development for the Mac."

Support for the Mac in Source and Steamworks is available to third parties immediately. Interested developers should contact Jason Holtman at [email protected].

How well has Deus Ex aged? I have heard it was one of those most plays, but is it still? I tried a Hitman game years ago, and never got into... wonder if I should give it a 2nd shot...

Hitman: Blood Money is an absolute steal at 4.99$. It's the most recent one... I don't recommend getting the first two-- they have not aged well, and it's stupidly retarded how close the AI watches you (their necks turn like owl's heads; watching every move you make).

Blood Money doesn't punish you as much as the other Hitman games and it looks the best. Get it.
