Dunno about you, but Steam likes to waste 100mb HD/bandwidth for nearly every game I download by having a few years worth of DirectX runtime releases packed in with the game, just to have it do the DirectX install check.....and in the case of some other games, the .Net framework also.

Steam has measures in place to detect your hardware/driver version, why the bloody hell can't they check your DX/Net version also?

As for the sale, I don't think I can be arsed to play the 'play the games you don't own for a chance to win 10 games' contest again this year. Can't wait to get some shit cheap though.

Oh man, already spent $40 on the first day... this is going to be bad

Worst part is that they are downloading at ~100 KB/s because Steam is getting slammed. Won't be able to play these until tomorrow or something lol.

What's the difference between the Oblivion GOTY and Oblivion GOTY Deluxe? I've yet to make it more than a few hours into Oblivion and I've always been told to stop being a consolefag and play it on PC and 6/8 bucks is too good to pass up.

Also on the topic, since I've primarily played on consoles with very few exceptions (Dark Forces, XI) any must have PC games on sale to pick up? I've got about $40 I can spend. Ages of games don't matter, I'm up for titles of any era.

get the valve pack taco! well wait til near the end of the sale, but i highly recommend half-life 2 & the portals.

same deal here with oblivion, i always wanted to finish it on 360, but for 8 bucks i couldn't pass it up.

Pretty sure Deluxe has a bunch of DLC included versus the straight GOTY.

I enjoy playing it. It's a different take on what could be considered standard rts gameplay. Only real downside is that there's only around 3-4k players on at any given time which makes trying to find a match sometimes take like 10 minutes.
If you are buying the complete pack, just install Retribution as it is stand-alone (unless you want to play the previous single player campaigns) and uses steam instead of gfwl.
You can check out dow2live.com for live casting/VoDs, and HarlequinCasts and GamesReplays.org on youtube for some replay commentaries to help you make a decision on whether or not to buy based on actual gameplay.

$2.50 is hardly worth complaining about if it were to suck, but Knights of the Old Republic worth picking up at that price? Never had an opportunity to play it so I'm not sure what the gameplay is like, and don't think I've heard anyone I know personally know talk about it.

Also what about Just Cause 2 for $4.99?

Just Cause 2 is a fantastic game if you like GTA style sandbox mayhem, 5 bucks is a steal.

KOTOR has been given away free in the past, but if you want to see the roots of Mass Effect's gameplay it's not a bad buy for less than the cost of a trip to Taco Bell. It's definitely a good use of the Star Wars license if that matters to you.

I JUST bought that on yesterday's 'sale' for like $13. Bah. Anyways yeah, it's a completely open world, completely sandbox-style with a bunch of quests/main missions you can do (or just wreak havoc if you prefer). $5 is ridiculous!

Rule #1 of Steam summer/winter sale: Don't buy a game outside of the daily deals until the last day of the sale. Then you can be sure it isn't going to be one of the daily deals, which are always cheaper.

Bleh, tempted by this. Have Heroes 5 on disc, but am a steam addict and much much prefer having it on there... and then could also get all the DLC for it... Why must you tempt me steam!?!?! I know I will never play all I buy, but when it costs as much as a drive to the store... how can I say no

I picked that up during last summer's sale for like $25... I am only about 40 hrs into it and there are a lot of missions/undiscovered areas left for me. It is completionist's wet dream with all the collectable items spread out over a massive map. Every settlement/military base/city has a set number of items to find as well to get it checked off on the map.

    I haven't bought anything yet this year. Hoping to pick up Terraria for $5 or less, maybe an fps for $5, but otherwise any big games that would be cheap I did pick up last summer ; ;

Anyone else downloading at insanely slow speeds? My Borderlands is going at like 50 KB/s at the moment.

I'm pretty sure the steam servers are getting raped from downloads. When I downloaded games just after TF2 went F2P, it took me like a two and a half hours to download a fairly small game.

Terraria is 25% off right now. From $10 to $7.50

Highly recommend for it's platformy/actiony/explorationy/resource-gathery/buildy goodness (2D Minecraft, but I think it's a lot better in pace/action). Not to mention the developers are on top of their shit and the updates seem pretty significant and frequent.

I'd eat my hat if Terraria doesn't get a 50-75% sale as part of the daily sales later this week. No point buying it now with the overall-store sale.
