Pask?
Yes, this is a good idea
No, this idea would not work at all
This would work to an extent
Pask?
I've always been an advocate for lottery aggro. These HNMs are difficult to get near without aggroing, so I don't see the purpose of why players can claim them anyway.
When there's a large number of players in aggro range, the HNM will randomly choose who it aggros.
When the HNM aggros, it will claim to the party/alliance that aggroed it. Due to that small time frame between aggro and engage, any of the HNMs could be flashed or provoked before it struck a more vulnerable character like a Black Mage.
To prevent Exploitation, the HNMs will priority aggro level 75 jobs first.
I also thought there could be a rare keyitem that could be farmed in the area that could increase the aggro possibility. This thing would be extremely rare, and have a drop rate of around half a percent. If the HNM aggros the person with this keyitem, it's lost. If the person leaves the zone, the keyitem is lost. If the person is in a party, the keyitem is randomly applied to someone in the group starting with level 75 jobs. It could be something like "Bugard Carcass" keyitem for Fafnir.
Anyways, having the server choose who fights and who doesn't makes more sense than having players exploiting packet sniffing bot claims. In the end, it boils down to who has the best/fastest bot/bot settings/will to risk their account.
This period of where the NM uses lottery aggro can also be short duration. Approximately 60 seconds. If nobody's in aggro range (which is very unlikely) the NM could be claimed as normal. However, due to the nature of the monsters and how difficult it can be to get close to many of them without being attacked, I doubt there's really to set a duration.
I have this idea outlined in great detail and I've submitted it to SE multiple times. This is just a quick rundown.
I'm all for the position that people need to move on and do what they enjoy instead of complaining, but I'm not sure how you could argue from that position that Drings are obsolete. You could make the case that you can be a good tank without one, and that having one won't make you a good tank if you previously sucked, but I don't see how one could say the gear is obsolete. Good gear is good gear, independent of whether the player base thinks its worth the effort.
Well with how PLDs play now it's mostly a macro only piece IMO.
My idea was for Wyrms to fly around like a Yovra does, randomly dropping down to pwn people with a big AoE Touchdown/stun/knockback type shit. Roaming from zone to zone like DI/SW do, but it would be pretty cool to see it added in general.
Everyone getting pwned in DA every Faffles would be comedy.
Having to be aggroed in VoS would be superfunny.
It would be an idle piece (and left in to cast Utsusemi). Macro enmity rings for JA/Flash/Cures, switch back to Dring to stand. If you're going to say idle pieces aren't worth it, then Ares Body is outdated and obsolete as well. A Paladin with the option should be switching out Ares the same way.
If I'm idel I'm using Toreadors/Woodsman depending on what I'm fighting.
I think that's a pretty silly argument. Sushi affects your accuracy way more and if you've ever tanked anything in a completely defensive oriented equipment set while eating sushi you'll still barely see your TP nudge. It takes far too much effort to get accuracy high enough, and on a hard mob that effort will impair your ability to do your job (to tank).
And I'd much rather take -10% damage off a nasty AOE TP move that is too fast for a DMG down macro (Hurricane Wing, Rampant Stance, etc.) than some useless accuracy. Not to mention the benefits of having it on when a mob unleashes a nasty TP move right when your shadows are canceled while you recast, or a mob with just generally ass high physical damage (Tiamat in 2hr?)
But even so, Dring also shows tons of benefits for Aegis PLD/RDM tanks.
It's one thing not to think Dring is worth your time; it does take a ludicrous amount of camping and time to attain, and you might play for years (more) and never see it. But it still has extremely high absolute value stat-wise. People's subjective evaluation of time to effort doesn't effect that. Calling Dring obsolete is silly.
i would idle in a dring on my nin as well. its really good for instant AOE's that you cant macro out magic def gear fast enough for. Like breaths, etc.
Umm, where did I say it's obsolete?
^ This
Also if you got an Aegis you see very little difference with a D-Ring, With 65% block rate and 75% DMG migration from the block. the -10% DMG is only going to be useful 35% of the time . Also with a shadow mantle (12% proc rate i have noticed but might be lower or higher) that will make the 35% of the time the D-Ring is useful even less.
100 with 12% proc rate.
88 Hits that can do full DMG
65% Block rate from Aegis giving 57 blocks. (Can all ready get taimats crit hits for under 80 DMG so -10% of 80 is not alot >_>;')
31 unblocked hits with no shadow mantle / no shield block
31/100.
Then that's even a lower % of usefulness if you evade / parry As those checks are done before Shadow Mantle / Aegis. Making the D-Ring such a less use full item. Tbh you might be looking at a 15-20% of hits from the monster that D-Ring can make or break.
Umm yeah, because for the most part it is, as long as the mob doesn't have a dangerous AoE I don't see any reason to fulltime it for when I could be doing something more effective to gain hate.
Like idling on your Whm in Whitegate wearing a PCA and D.ring!
DRINK SUM MOAR HATERADE BITCHES!
I admit that aside from loving the way it looks, most of why I run around on Pld in heca gear is for the haters to keep hating... if only I could get a spinning rim to go on my shield, and some hydraulics so I wouldn't be so fucking short.
Ok so are you arguing it is obsolete or not?
I will repeat the arguments you brushed over when you feigned the "I didn't say that" line.
1) It is useful for nasty AOE TP moves that are too fast for a DMG down macro. Most hard NMs of mention have these sorts of moves.
2) It is useful for when a mob unleashes a nasty TP single target move right when your shadows are canceled for recast, or if the mob with just generally ass high physical damage that makes it deadly anytime you're switching shadows (Tiamat in 2hr?)
3) It is the best option to idle in because it takes far too much effort to get accuracy high enough to make a difference on a hard mob. That extra effort (i.e. the other gear you will have to swap, the food you will eat, etc.) will likely impair your ability to do your job, which is to tank not to be Atonement DPS. On the mobs I have in mind, I bet that most of the time you probably will end up losing more hate from the extra damage you take than the hate you gain from the pittance of damage you gain from your damage (except in the period *immediately* following Atonement before natural decay and dmg chip away at that hate)
Okay humor me, list these so called mobs. This I'm curious to see.
HURRICANE WING SON, SERIOUS SHIT
You don't know me very well then xD
All a defending ring is is a compliment piece
If you're a good tank, a Defending Ring enhances you. If you suck, so does that Defending Ring.
It's not some sort of omfgwtfend-all-be-all piece of armor, all a D Ring does is ultimately compliment the gear around it as well as the tank's abilities.
Granted imo a D Ring does more for a shitty Paladin than a good one, and anyone who would disagree with this needs a generic math lesson. A good paladin would be able to more properly utilize it though.
