WAR can reach 400 ACC fine; axes don't count.
ATK caps, according to wiki the lv82 birds have 327 DEF, so 2 = ATK/327 - 7(0.05), solving for ATK is 768.45

I didn't start playing yesterday. It's obvious every mob has different stat, but generally you need 3 sets at least when it comes to nuking: All MAB/INT, Some skills/some MACC (Dynamis northlands), and all Skills/MACC that you can get for stuff like Kirin, Ouryu, Bahamut v2, JOL, Odin (though shouldn't even use blm on Odin). And I didn't mean 320/120 is LITERALLY a magic number, but w/e. You either got what I meant or you didn't.
For those that don't know what 320/120 mean, 320 refers to Elemental skills, some people see it as a minimum but I see it as a maximum because after 320, ele skills just aren't helping you much anymore and you should stack M Acc instead if you have them. I supposed 320 works as minimum if you don't have M Acc gears yet. 120 is INT, it's kinda of too high to get for non taru even w/ 5 INT merits.
My question wasn't exactly about that magic number, but more about if anyone noticed or kept track of how many acc you actually need for certain fight e.g. 400 for colibri, 430 for mamool like some people suggested here. I was curious to see if this has been discussed. Not everyone has parser either, so some information could be helpful.
nvm i corrected myself

What? 120/320 isn't low you're crazy if think it is. You need top notch gear and merits even as a Tarutaru to hit those kind of numbers especially on a mob like Tiamat where you can't rely on Bliz nukes. A lot of Blm gear is off the AH and not cheap. Really with out Ice/Aquilo's you can get to what? Seriously look at the gear available, a balanced build out of the best gear and merits is around 110-130 int/300-330 elemental skill. With the gear available even a Taru Blm cannot much higher without breaking a good balance of int/ele skill (not only that you're having to eliminate MAB pieces to get that high.)
I have no idea where 120/320 originated from, and in some ways it's stupid but in other ways it's perfectly fine.
It's fine in the sense that, if you have a friend who recently hit 75 BLM and asks "I want to gear for HNMs, I heard I should aim for 120INT/320Skill, what do you think?" you can tell them that's fine, because that'll result in reasonable gear for a number of mobs they might fight. Likewise if they were asking about one-hander TP gear for merits, you could tell them something like "Try to get as much haste as you can, and then attack, while keeping your accuracy at 90-95% with buffs." Neither explanation really captures the entire picture, nor those subtle "what's better" choices, but they are adequate enough, especially if the person isn't looking for an involved explanation (I've never told anyone either of those things, personally, but people don't ask me questions like that without expecting long and involved explanations lol).
The problem arises when someone having heard the above "rule" dogmatically assumes that there is going to be any perceptible difference between 120INT/320skill and 119INT/319skill, or that it is necessarily going to be better than 130INT/315skill, or 115INT/340skill on any enemy you might be facing. There's nothing "magical" about it at all, except that it affords a reasonably effective guideline without having to put any effort into experimenting with their gear, observing their damage, and adjusting for it.
To the OP, the answer is the same, as you can probably already see from the responses. If you want a quick and dirty answer, then get as much haste as you can, and then attack, while keeping your accuracy 90%+ with buffs. If you want more, then read the myriad other threads on the forums about how to maximize your own job's efficacy in various situations.

thats your magic number
well, of course 130/315 is always better than 120/320 (it's either exactly the same macc, or 5 more depending on if Δint>10, and int increases damage, skill doesn't)
[/nitpick]
that's another thing too. i've seen quite a few people nuke things like tia using elite beret(+1), merciful cape, etc, thinking skill adds more accuracy than int, when in fact, it doesn't (when Δint<10, which is pretty much always will be for anyone on tia), which means int not only gives exactly the same macc as skill, but it also increases damage, which skill doesn't do.
speaking of which, does anyone happen to know how much int the other hnms have? the only ones i know are tia/jorm with 120, faf with 85, and lolblmatkirin has 149 =/
Or you could just bring this up in the 320/120 thread that was already on the main page, instead of necrobumping for a derail.
I don't know why you're nitpicking me. The entire point of my post was that there is nothing special about 320/120, and that its only useful as a rough guide to a new player who hasn't investigated the details of Macc and damage. I picked 130/315 in my example for exactly the reason that you stated above: it's going to be better than 120/320, but a person who simply follows the "120/320" rule dogmatically or because they mistakenly believe that there's some "tier" or "cutoff" at those two points would be inclined against it.
Trying to bring this back on topic (as I am interested in the original question)
Ok there is no magic number, as there isn't really for elemental magic; but people here have parsed their fights against many of the HNM/Gods/Jailers etc.
You know how much accuracy you were wearing at the time (inc merits and food).
So is it not possible to post something like:
"420 acc = 85% hit rate against Kirin"
That would be enough to answer this guys question.
I know your WS set may have more or less acc than your TP set, but we aren't talking about being perfectly accurate about the mobs eva, just giving some one an idea of what to expect when the levels a melee.
N.B. The above numbers were pulled completely out my ass, and are in no way based on any fact. They are their to show an example
The magic number for DD is brd, cor, feint, Dia and angon.
Less smarmily: noone really has hard info on monsters besides g.colibri and somewhat mamool. Beyond that, you'd need to parse.
