One thing that I think some people are missing in this topic is a distinction between a former government and a current people (and even current government). I'd say most here realize the distinction, but in my experience so far, a lot of Koreans lump it all together. Japan did do awful things to Korea.... back in the Imperial days. The Japanese who committed the last atrocities are mostly dead now, and since the fall of the Empire, Japan has become pretty much a model for modern pacifistic society. Yes, they don't want to wave around the grim details of their past atrocities, but by god that's hardly something unique, lol. We do the same damn thing; enjoy the two pages on Vietnam and your half-page on Andrew Jackson's jihad in your high school textbook.
