Woah, news to me. o_O
Sounds amazing.
So what's a UI?
User Interface
I'm still trying to figure out how this is different than regular windower, besides the Console.
And no, I haven't downloaded it >.>
It's in the early stages at the moment. Most of the cool stuff hasn't even been integrated yet.
Here's some quotes taken from Azaril's blog.
Possible TParty features.I’m back to hacking away at FFXi again after a pretty long break from it. I’m working on building the platform for what will hopefully become version 4.0 some time in the near future.
Here’s what I’ve currently completed:
- Entirely new clean code base with a lot of the hacks and bad code that was causing a lot of bugs in earlier versions. The platform has been built from the ground up with stability and flexibility in mind so it won’t get in the way of actually playing FFXi with untimely crashes.
- LUA script integration that can talk to a lot of the core features in windower and is fully extensible. I haven’t figured out what I will fully expose yet to script as I’d rather not have the windower become a botting platform.
- CEGUI integration for creating user interfaces and interaction with the windower. For example, the new console is built using CEGUI and supports a full scrolling history buffer, key repeat and a command history.
- Simplified plugin architecture. Developing plugins will be faster and more robust which will hopefully significantly reduce the number of plugin crashes that have historically happened in prior versions.
- Full 3D in game rendering for rich graphics. For example, showing spell range graphics, an in game waypointing system or advanced targeting data.
- Ideas off the top of my head for the new TParty:
- Cast bars for players within alliance/range of the player. This would allow you to see who’s casting what and on who. For example tell if you’ve got an incoming heal when you’re close to death.
- Alliance member location indicators. Show arrows under your players feet to indicate direction to alliancer members/group members/target.
- Alliance member or target overlay information, see hp/mp/tp information next to the player on screen.
- Custom overlay information, attach any image/text to a player in 3d.
- Clickable targeting and casting buttons on screen for alliance members. Be able to see health and debuffs on a player in a simple fashion and be able to click to cure/remove debuffs.
It's going to be pretty damn nifty once it's finished.Exposed some of the game state in to lua though I’m not sure how much I will leave in when I release v4. There’s some really cool stuff you can do though right now though so I really want to leave it mostly in. As a trivial example you can target the 4th alliance member and echo the target change to the chat log.
and once its released, azaril is sued by SE.
=/
Eh, my issues with getting Spellcast functional for me aren't really integral to the thread at hand. Main point is, depending on how complex v4 gets, I'd rather not people have to learn a coding language or some derivative based on one to get more than basic functionality out of it. I'd also rather not repeat the situation of only people "worthy" of having a certain script/plugin/whatever would've had like with the Salvage crap just because they might not be experienced in code and don't have people who'd help them.
Plus there's the whole can o' worms of SE possibly not liking where Windower's heading. I can't see certain PS2 users liking some of the proposed one bit.
woot can't wait for this :O
PS2 users are pretty much the reason we don't have an updated UI...or updated graphics...or anything nice, really. So fuck 'em. Tell them to play on a real platform. Also windower is still undetectable and that probably won't change. If they want to start banning for windower they're going to have to comb chatlogs for mistypes and people running their mouths about it like idiots, and even that can't really be construed as proof someone is using it.
Bah... another excuse for SE to ban more people.
Yar they reaally want to get rid of their subscribers, I'm sure..
Everyone post their predictions about banning and Square's policies in this thread! Eventually some of you may be right!
Take nothing for granted - the most paranoid of us will continue to gladly encourage, but personally avoid, third party programs. Square can delete any account at any time for any reason, including no reason at all.I've expected to come under legal fire from them before but so far remain unscathed. Then again, my work didn't actually change the game interface on the scale Aikar's work does - for better or for worse.
So... this can actually insert graphics into the game, move the chat log, etc? HP/MP/TP above player heads? Fucking awesome. Is it possible to put status effects visible on them, too?
Really hope we're not forced to use spellcast, though. I know the windower devs are proud of it, and it's not hard to use... I just prefer using G15 with normal aliases/keybinds. Looks like he's making it backwards compatible though, right?
Looks interesting and the only reason SE would likely go after someone (or the creator) is because they're tooling around with FFXI WAY too much and you can deny it all you want, but windower users are slowly but surely getting more and more advantages over console users or non-windower users. It was a different story when people used to be like "lol I only use Windower for Draw Distance and Windowed mode!" To all of this. Right now it's pretty much like poking a tiger with a stick, sooner or later it will fight back and no one can bitch when it happens.
The PS2 is holding the game back but you can't force people off of the PS2 because if they cared for PC gaming don't you think they would have gotten the PC version of the game? On top of that I'm pretty sure Japan isn't the heaviest PC gaming population like say Korea and China are.
Highly doubt SE would do anything over a modification such as this. Especially when theres bigger gamebreaking things out there already being sold for cash.
this could be so amazing... is it sad that this is 1000x more exciting then crystal w/e?
