Kind of messed up that a walmart 2h DD can outdamage a well-geared 1h DD.
Ironic because that was my argument for 2h pre2h buff. How an AH WAR can breeze a 1-1.2k rampage with meh gear and sushi while a full heca DRG eating meat fully meritted could barely squeeze in 800. Also the fact that a 50DMG axe was hitting merit mobs for 90-120 with 150 crits while my D93 Mezraq at the time was doing 160-180. The problem with 2h weapons was that the way DMG scaled in comparison to attack. A WAR with two 50ish DMG axes would swing for 90-130x2 while a D93 polearm was hitting for 160. 93DMG is almost twice that of 50DMG so you'd think the end damage would be close to double, but that wasn't the case.(Neutral mobs like Mamool btw)
When you have a RDM that's tanking, do you also expect them to be keeping up with all of their "magely duties" at the same time? I mean, it almost seems like you expect a party-supporting RDM/BLM to walk up in full casting gear and start whacking away at an HNM.
I never saw Composure as a tool to allow caster (i.e. backline) RDMs to debuff. I see it as a tool to allow melee RDMs (i.e. ones that are geared for frontline) to perform the role of reducing resistances.
Said RDM would therefore not have any other "magely duties" other than the one they are there for: reducing the enemy's resistance to magic. Is this a worthwhile tradeoff of a spot that could go to, say, a DD or a BLM? That kind of depends on the mob you're fighting, doesn't it?
Given that no one needs any help enfeebling normal mobs and that the only mobs that would possibly require this kind of resistance reduction are necessarily going to be mobs that matter, I still don't understand why so many people are treating a job that could potentially allow you to fully debuff an HNM as some sort of useless insult.
Enfire II? Enaero II? What the fuck SE, I wanted Enlight and Endark.
Prolly SE was afraid that RDM would be doing other things besides their usual buff cycles. Then again, they added these spells so I wonder how many RDM will be seeking to merit but have in comment "heal/haste/refresh NO THANKS MELEE ONRY!"
...
I already melee on Bard/White Mage, got nothing better to do between songs and cures.
Assuming you can click off Composure and don't want to make yourself useless as a debuffer.
Scenario A: The increased duration on buffs you cast on yourself makes them last longer than 5 minutes. Thus you 'have fun' by idling less but the accuracy bonus disappears when you actually have to rebuff the group. Bye RDM DPS. Yup, hitting like a wet kleenex sure is fun!
Scenario B: The increased duration on self-cast buffs makes them last less than 5-minutes, meaning you do even less DPS than scenario A. But gosh at least you're less idle right?
Tbh, I haven't done merit since Campaign came out... being able to melee on WHM/NIN KC + Flash Spam for hate to get hit and get that xp makes it all fun while spamming Hexa Strike/Mystic Boon keeping the MP up constantly. I feel like I am the only one who heals the damn npcs and I know that will be the case after this update. Oh man, everyone will be RDM in Campaign now... they already meleed anyway
How often do you cast any Enfeebling Magic in a merit party? If the enemy lives long enough for anything besides Dia to matter, you're doing it wrong. Even when you start running out of enemies to kill, you shouldn't even bother with Dia because you're endangering losing your chain.
Too lazy to read? Composure doesn't make you unable to cast Haste, it makes you cast it less often. It has a base recast of 20 seconds. After Fast Cast job traits and equipment, and some Haste equipment, its only 10 seconds. After Composure, its either going to double back to 20 seconds, or at worst ignore everything and double up from the base to 40 seconds. If you can't cast Haste on 3-4 people with a 40 second recast, you're useless.
I agree with much of what Septimus said, he nailed it right on the head. There are so many detractors to using the new JA, that it has been relegated to the role of a toy, which serves no major function other than for us to play with it.
As Sept mentioned, if u wanna' be a melee caster, lvl Blu they were designed specifically for that purpose, and will do that far more effectively, and not at the cost of pt members.
I did level Blue Mage, and I enjoy it very much. But unfortunately, it does not have the ability to maintain Haste on other party members, or Refresh its own MP. It does not apply to the argument that Red Mage can in fact use Composure to main heal, enhance, and melee in a party effectively.
It could, do BLUs want to? No.I did level Blue Mage, and I enjoy it very much. But unfortunately, it does not have the ability to maintain Haste on other party members, or Refresh its own MP.
