New RMT attacks

Got the POL mail last night. I know it's been said that it's not related but I'm still too scared to open it...
I know I usually get a mail when I buy new content ID or deactivate one or when I move server...but I didn't do any of those last night...
Also I always thought my mail password is the same as my POL so I don't have to put it in every time I check mail
and it's now said password for my mail is incorrect.

Well Tubbers..you successfully gotten some people too paranoid to even open POL mail/messages when they're unrelated to this because it isn't impossible, but it's literally a 1% chance that you can get hacked from opening POL mail/messages because it's split between server side and client side, and they would have to compromise the serverside data which why would they screw with accounts when they have a goldmine of CC numbers to rob?

This is why its highly unlikely that was a cause for this, and as for 'legal actions'..well good luck with that, because it still seems like the whole story isn't being told from the ones who've been hacked because regardless of what people want to believe, a lot of these hackings people always leave out crucial details.

It's not the POL mail they're getting you through, it's the POL messages such as friend invites and whatnot.

That mail is more than likely SE trying to promote their addon one last time before the April 8th update.

Yeah read about it on the other thread just now. The reason I was in panic is because I don't remember ever getting any random POL mails. It has been always common to get one when I buy/cancel content IDs or move server. It does seem like though that SE is trying to improve their customer support/services. I noticed I got two newsletters from them in the past week sent to my hotmail mailbox (never got anything like this before) regarding the update. Scared to open it at first, but checked the source and it looked alright to me.

You normally get email if:

You activate/deactivate IDs
Move Server
Use it as your primary email
Signed up for Newsletters
Enter Contests
Gave it to your friends

So chances are, just about every random email you'll get is from SE.

If this RMT was so successful, why aren't we seeing a flood of posts regarding hacked accounts? I do acknowledge the fact that it would be unintelligent for RMT to exploit the crap out of this because it would attract attention but it seems odd that such an effective attack would be so isolated.

You're still missing the point, Tarage, the main point wasn't "Oh no my frienz got haxxored" the main point was that the names on their accounts were changed.

I've confirmed the PoL messages have nothing to do with it at all, but the main point still stands that it's possible for your account name to be changed.

I'm confused what you want a screenshot of. They don't have access to their accounts to take a screenshot of their names, and I wouldn't post that anyways... Even if they did, they don't have the knowledge tor the programming skill to change the names themselves, so it's pointless. SE denies the possibility of names being changed, so there's no confirmation to screenshot from chats. It's been stated that Taj was able to change the names on accounts; Yes, we're not dealing with Taj, but the fact that he could do it means it is in fact possible to do.

And no you're not being a justifiable ass, you're just being an ass. Nowhere in this thread have I been seeking sympathy for the people who had their account stolen, who are not me. All I said was, "This is really strange, be careful there could be a new form of RMT attack." That is a much fear mongering as shouting "Fore!" when you hit a golf ball, it's a warning to be careful, since you might get hit by a freaking golf ball.

Here's where he likely said it's 'fear mongering'..because if you read this thread (and some others) there are some people who were too afraid to even check messages regardless that they "get them from friends/SE" so it does kind of make people too paranoid when there was little to no proof that it was a message/mail that hacked them.

Really, there still seems to be something missing from the story, but it's kind of like when these hackings first started:

"I didn't share my info or anything! I was on and the RMT just hacked my account without any trojans or keyloggers, they've found a way to hack SE's servers!"

Then it turns out they had a rootkit installed.
