Stop blaming browers; I've used IE forever, visit every 'main' ffxi site numerous times a day, and never had a problem.

The people Tubbers have mentioned are old players, and I wouldnt put it past me they put their trust in each other and have shared acct info. Perhapse one went a bit 'crazy', or had a vistor over one day, and saw the acct info lying around. Just suggesting.

It's no coincidence those three people were compromised.

You can't change names on accounts, it's not possible.(I started this game at like age 14 years ago and the name on my old account wasn't mine, so I tried forever trying to get the name changed. I spoke to everyone I could, and they told me there is no possible way for ANYONE (read ANYONE, not even THEM) to change the name on an account, ever.) Someone is either reading PM's or like Drwaffles said: Someone knew their info, and fucked them over. But I doubt they will admit it.

yea exactly. i was talking about how they called in and couldn't verify their identity because this hacker changed their first and last names. and if this really was an inside job by an ex-linkshell member, they couldn't change the name on the account unless they had said program to do so

Gonna laugh when this huge panic ends up being the result of another tale of people being "hacked" when they've given their info out on numerous occasions. Always annoys me, that. A person I played with a while back got "hacked" literally every couple of months - multiple people across multiple servers had access to his account... yet he always seemed to get it back within a few weeks at most. A couple of times he even tried to convince everyone it was because Taj was out to get him (he used to be on Leviathan, though knowing him he probably had no affiliation with the guy in the first place). So now I never have much sympathy for people who lose their accounts after spreading their info around.

Theres a way to get names changed on accounts, taj is the only one I know that can do it

To the OP: Do you have any affiliation with Taj? He's the only one I know of that can change the name on accounts and this kind of seems like his style, of course this is a stab in the dark.

Well, I do wonder if the names were changed or not. I now it's a shot in the dark but a lot of people reported their first and last names were switched around. So maybe that's why it said the names weren't correct?

A few days from now we will find out that SE have banned several accounts. And that these people were actually banned and use the hacking as a cover story.

I doubt that matters, my names are swapped too and I had to call them to change my password a while ago; had no issues there. Someone said either here or in another thread that the name swap happened when SE updated something billing-related so they probably know to account for that.

Sadly a third member from our linkshell got hacked today (One member got hacked twice) so this isnt limited to one shell/server :/

can you post specifics? it would be nice to share information on what websites were visited, which viruses were found etc besides just saying someone was hacked
