Erm, you do realize if you create another character at the adventurer's guild you can main them right? You can essentially have a char of each race, at least when playing solo. Single player mode is incredibly easy, I've completed Normal without getting wiped out once.

I played the GCN one with friends, and we eagerly played through Ring of Fates this last fall. However, as a lifelong Lilty player I was more than angry at their treatment in Fates. I could get over the fact they used ladles now instead of lances, but the lack of a melee combo (as opposed to the Clavats...) was a major pisser for me.

I saw promo art with Liltys using lances again for Echoes of Time, did they at least give them a combo this time, too?

In which the 3rd swing thrusts you forward, easily falling off of ledges. Not a very good combo IMO.

Sweet. I'll be picking this up soon for Wii. Having not played a FFCC game yet, how big of a decision is tribe/race selection? Are all classes proficient in magic/melee and certain classes just get a slight bonus (like FFXI)? Or is this a major decision on how you will be required to play the game? Also in terms of armor/accessory slots, are they race specific as I gather some weapon types are? Finally, is there a decent webpage for reference?

Also, have they announced the release date (or even a seasonal estimate) for the Wii Ware, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years?

Generally this is the rule of thumb.

Clavat: Basically a damage soaker you get good HP and Defense Growth,Average in Magic

Lility: High Attack Power and Good HP, Worst in Magic

Selkie: Probably the most well-rounded race. I prefer to use Bows with them. Average in Magic. Decent MP Growth.

Yuke: Great with Magic, High MP Growth, Poor HP and Defense. Medium range attack.

The tribe you choose makes an impact on your playstyle.

Clavats are slightly more defensive but mostly because they are a tribe for beginners. Well rounded stats, but not exceptional at anything except sword chains (mashing the attack button). Great for amateur players who don't really avoid attacks. Could be considered the paladins of this installment... maybe.

Yukes are obviously the mages (black/white/etc). Typically high MP, low HP, high magic attack/defense and low attack/defense. Lacking good charge attacks implies MP is to be used for spells, with which they can stack 4 of by themselves, unlike anyone else. Best if used as support, as their abilities lend themselves to keeping distance from enemies. Hard to solo, as usual, but great for multiplayer, where you can actually have a chance to cast things like Firaja/Ultima/etc.

Selkies are the quick thief-class of this game. Low defense and HP is balanced by their ability to run/jump to avoid attacks (takes a lot more skill). They have a lot of good charge/smash attacks which make use of their large MP pool since their magic skills are inherently lacking. High crit-chance is also very thief-ish. Playstyle is more of a hit/run and dodge/weave, juking enemies out and paddling them, or running around them, barraging with arrows.

Lilties are the contradictory little warrior/samurai tribe with the highest HP & highest attack. Completely lacking a decent amount of MP, as their magic skills are the weakest. They are just heavy hitters that rely more on stunning opponents to allow a clear shot. Limited MP calls for strategic use of powerful, but sparingly used charge/smash attacks to take out multiple enemies.

Even solo, this is quite a lot of fun with my Selkie. Just finished the first ruins.

Question regarding the guild: the ones you recruit any different from the secret ones you get later in the harder modes (leveled equally that is). And can you remove members at any given time? Wasn't sure if to use the guild at all and just get what secret characters I can (think I can only get one in normal mode).

Don't believe there's any difference between ones you create and the secret ones you can recruit, assuming same level/equips. There's plenty of slots and you can delete/rename guildmates at any time, including the secret ones. I just recently recruited a Red Mage Selkie character (paid him 5000), he was level 30 whilst I was level 26. I just nabbed his Red Mage armour and sword (was ALOT stronger than the one I was using at the time) and then stuck him back in the guild. You can also remove your main character if you want to just play solo as another character, and you can use guildmates during multiplayer instead of your main character.

Awesome thanks for the info. So you can drop the secret char and get him back via the guild? Anything special you have to do to get them back or are they just waiting.

In the guild there's a list of your characters. You can add and remove them from your party at any time on the list. If you delete them they're gone for good. Secret characters show up on your list just like any other guildmate you've created once you recruit them.

I had been under the original assumption that the guild counter was only to swap in-and-out hired allies. Either way, what do you really get out of hiring difficult-to-get allies? Special moves/stats/spells/anything?

That red mage has pretty strong attack but lowwwwwwwww hp.

Game got a lot easier with partner to help Raise when I get freaking frozen and pummeled on >> Think the game is more challenging solo
