Probably because most of their comics don't really have a legit way to make it overseas.
From what I've heard the manga market is currently in a bit of a slump. That is probably what sparked this witch hunt.

It is pretty sad that they label their biggest fans (by which I mean fans as those who read new chapters as soon as a translation is up) as pirates. In the long run by doing this, without offering legal ways for people to read the new chapters, they are alienating and diminishing their surprisingly dedicated fan-base.
I guess that they just don't understand that print media is practically dead, and that having things translated and posted digitally for maximum international exposure is by far the best thing they could do. The reality of the existence of so many scanaltion/fansub groups, which are essentially doing all volunteer work, proves that this could be done professionally at relatively small cost, in some cases they could literally hire the same people doing the scanalations now.
It is absolutely asinine that the they don't see the profit potential of hosting their own manga on advertised websites, that could literally have a link to buy the compilations books and other merchandise right there next to the new chap, in addition to outside advertising.
This is the way TV is doing it with Hulu, it also helps them focus on the group of people that like that type of manga. Post your 22~ page manga up on a website, each page comes with ads that you get money for, profit. Guess what you just saved yourself a ton of money on printing/using ink/paper/shipping cost and make just as much money.
Incase anyone wants to download some manga off Onemanga before it starts removing stuff, IEatManga pointed out this link to a program that'll download it for you.

Also works for a few other sites, I'm having it grab Trigun Maximum off AnimeA
Just marathoned Bakuman over the past couple days -- this is easily the best manga I've ever read. I'm so sucked in -- the writing is great, I'm so invested in what place Ashirogi's manga gets in Jump, the entire editorial department are such strong, strong characters, it really is amazing what the author's done to suck the reader in. Such a great series.
Yeah definitely. It gets a little frou frou for me sometimes with the whole "not till we accomplish our dreams!!" bit, but the payoff when they've been basically forced to see each other (when Mashiro's in the hospital, and more recently on the train ride back to the town, Yasuka or whatever) has been really, really enjoyable to watch. A manga about manga, such a cool idea. And you learn so much about the editorial process and the editing process -- I'm sure it's not as romanticized as it is in Bakuman, but the explanations make for an extremely interesting read, story aside.
Only complaint might be Hiramaru's Otters 11. His segments are kind of annoying and don't do much for me. Yeah, it's funny for a bit, but he's not really painted as a competitor anymore. And he was introduced as some Eiji-type genius. They went the only way they could really go with his character though, I guess, acting as comedic relief and being lovesick over Aiko-ko. The weekly segments on Aiko that his editor does are so damn funny, though, so I can't fault either character too much I guess. Eiji has to be, hands down, the funniest goddamn character I've seen in a book, manga, or otherwise, in a while. He's so absurd.
I love the Hiramaru segments.
I wish the creators of Bakuman would make a chapter of each of the different manga the manga-ka in the story do. I'd love to see a chapter of Crow, PCP, Detective Trap, or Otters 11.
Yeah, definitely. They had some reader vote for the top 6 mangas within the series in one issue: http://www.onemanga.com/Bakuman/58/01/
Full color pages 1 and 2. That was a lot of fun to see drawn like that but yeah, I'd much rather have full chapters. Would be neat, at least once.
Even legal doesn't help. I used One Manga (and then torrents when they had to drop it) for Tenjou Tenge BECAUSE CMX censors it to shit. And even if they stopped, the backlog would still be the fucked up version.
And unfortunately, the same shenanigans seem to be popping up with legal digital distribution. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...cted-by-itunes
Unfortunately, nothing will likely ever really come of this. The existing companies don't want to change, and they won't quite take on the scanlating groups because most of them are amateurs.
And trying to start a new company is... troublesome. The big issue is licensing. Unless you have a fuck of a lot of money to throw around, the existing companies have far more leverage with the Japanese publishers than you ever will.
Yeah, the whole 'wait til our dreams come true!' bit is a bit corny, but it makes those chance meetings and what not really awesome to see. Heck, I even like Takagi and Miyoshi's relationship within the story, though their relationship is one of the more 'regular' manga ones, where Azuki and Mashiro's is just.. outstanding in so many ways. I also like how they incorporate how much time passes and what not.
As far as the Otters' 11 one.. yeah, that manga-ka is just so insane, and so obsessed over Aiko, Haha. I guess that's what makes it funny to watch and read. He gets so close to quitting, then gets Aiko thrown into his head, and boom. Back to work..
As far as Eiji goes, I completely agree. Honestly, he reminds me a shit ton of L if he were an eccentric, loud, even crazier character that did manga. The way he does sound effects during his drawing of Crow and what not, and then how he praises Muto Ashirogi is so hilarious. Definitely makes me laugh harder any time he's in the chapter.
Been reading Vangelion Re-Take, and i have to say its the first doujin that has ever made me tear up, Good art and a good story(my only complaint is teh shex)
Spoiler: show
Fucking Eiji
He's like everything Kubo Tite wishes he could be when he made that fucking textless chapter and still kicks total ass
Bleach is going to wither away anyways now that the publishers are doing everything in their power to take down manga sites. It's one thing to read it for free but no one is going bother with it if they have to pay for that garbage lol.
Luckily, there will always be torrents for my fix on other series.
gotlurk is down too, cursesssss
All this doing is creating more problems, people are turning back to IRC, FTP and torrents by using forums to host these manga's, same for the raws it didn't change one bit I can get all the latest chapter almost daily, more so than before.
Just read this in the SJ community on LJ for two weeks time-
Otters 11 one-shot! I can't wait lolIssue 36/37
Lead CP: One Piece
CP: Golden Future Cup, Otter (spin-off for Bakuman, 15 pages)
...Also after the textless chapter the first thing my friend and I could say was ....Kubo...
I dont think it will create more problems, it just make people less interested in manga by making them harder to find and less conveniant to read. There is many series I wouldnt have started if they werent one click away.
In the end, the only thing they will accomplish is making anime/manga less popular in america. People wont suddently spend more money because they can't find them for free as easily.
