I'm not quite sure if it's what you're looking for, but if you want a depressing story that is spiraling downward Bokurano is usually a good choice. Need to give it a few arc to have an idea where they are going with this.

Have any of you read Hikaru no Go? Started reading it last week. I'm almost done, and holy shit it's pretty good.

The art is done by the guy that drew Death Note and draws Bakuman. The story is from some girl that won the Story King award(fans of Bakuman should know what that is) for one of her stories.

HnK is one of my all time favorites. Both the manga and the anime. I was actually thinking of going back to it again not long ago.

Is Bakuman like the only manga where time actually goes by? Feels like if the manga continues for another year all the characters will be in their 30s.

I just finished reading this today. I think I might need to re-read it just because the first half was hard to follow with time skips and new character arcs randomly.

If any of that stuff started happening on our world I would probably be a believer instantly, although it's similar to what I believe already so maybe that's why I loved it so much.
