Because we already fucking pay SE for updates and service. Are they free when you do a gobbie bag quest for them? If so then all the inv expansion stuff so far was free. Fuck yes this is awesome go free stuff.

    Exactly.

This 'expansion' coming out is basically a handful of cs's and some new armor. Don't they do this with every version update? AND OMG THEY ARE MAKING US PAY FOR IT TOO?

I didn't see you blabbering assholes complaining then, but its the same principle

Okay, then please explain why the shift to this model disgusts you. Because it's different? Different =/= bad.

The extra inventory is not required to play the game, neither is the security token, neither is the Airship furnishing, neither is the Teleport-City neckpiece, or the dynamis lord statue, or the silly pewter necklace. All of these are or have been optional purchases that have no significant impact on the metagame.

Optional in-game benefit for those who choose to engage in optional out-of-game benefit seems like a pretty fair deal to me.

Or are you making the assumption that the "shift to this model" means that SE is going to charge players for Tier III merits, access to instanced RotZ kings, and permission to enter Caitsith's lair at the end of WotG? Because if you are, that's more than a little far-fetched.

I'm saying that this isn't a piece of shit jewelry. You should be buying this because of all the fucking BAWING in every god dammed hacker thread ever on BG, Alla, KI, etc. The inventory space should be a reward for those competent enough to take a legitimate step to protect themselves in the game. This is seriously one of the first honest steps I have seen SE take to protect and enhance their player base experience, and all you can do is bitch about more inventory costing $10.

If you are buying this for JUST the inventory, you have bigger problems than some bully company taking your $10. Your priorities are all whacked out, yo.

For those who are curious how the devices work from a technical standpoint, this is the process in a nutshell.

    Time-synchronized one-time passwords
A time-synchronized one-time passwords change constantly at a set time interval, e.g. once per minute. To do this some sort of synchronization must exist between the client's token and the authentication server. For disconnected tokens this time-synchronization is done before the token is distributed to the client, other token types do the synchronization when the token is inserted into an input device. The main problem with time-synchronized tokens is that they can, over time, become unsynchronized.[citation needed] However, some such systems, such as RSA's SecurID, allow the user to resynchronize the server with the token, sometimes by entering several consecutive passcodes. Most also cannot have replaceable batteries and only last up to 3 years before having to be replaced - so there is additional cost.
    Event-based Token
An event based token, by its nature, has a longer life span.[citation needed] They work on the one-time password principle and so once used, the next password is generated. Often the user has a button to press to receive this new code via either a token or via an SMS message. All CRYPTOCard's tokens are event-based rather than time-based.
The DigiPass that SE is utilizing is a combination of the above two methods, requiring a button press to generate a password on demand based on the current time (UNIX time) and your token's unique ID. The requested password is displayed at the beginning of the next 30 second interval. From that time until 30 seconds later or first input your generated password is valid.

Regarding the bundling of this security feature with the additional form of storage I side with those who accept this as a strong business decision. Yes, it is profit-centric, but not because of the direct sale the the devices. The majority, if not all of the revenue from selling security tokens will likely be used to pay for the devices themselves, license to VASCO for use of their system, taxes, and distribution. The profit SE would reap as others have said will be the reduced strain on their customer service with calls relating to account hijackings. However, many people are not very security-minded and do not see the value in such preventative measures. To the end of ensuring the largest number of people possible make use of their new security, SE is bundling in the Mog Satchel, something nearly every player can see value in. By including the extra inventory incentive and requiring the token to be tied to your account to receive it, SE is guaranteeing a very large number of people to make the investment. There are those who overlook most of this and see it as an example of profiteering on SE's part, selling a security trinket with inventory bundled to guarantee them money, but that is simply not the case here. The only money coming to SE from this venture will be the money saved in customer service as a result of the initiative.

They're not going to make any profit off this, and 90% of player's accounts are not going to be safe from hacking because of this stunt!

This token is not for me, I work in IT, I am protected on many levels. I have yet to be hacked, I wont be hacked.

They're just giving players incentives to follow the ToS. Buy the token -> You don't share accounts anymore -> You're following the ToS, so has a cookie (or in this case more inventory)

The only reason this sucks is that we finally have confirmation that they were lying to us about PS2 limitations this whole time. Think about how much higher FFXI quality of life would have been in the last 5 years with a second gobbiebag. This is something we asked for forever.

I think the main complaint people have is that SE is trending towards providing in-game items as trade for real life money. Nobody wants to see <insert uber item here> up for sale by SE, when they have put in the time and effort to get it through conventional means. I can vaguely relate to that, as when I saw Byakko's Haidate were a mog bonanza item this year, I cringed a little because I just worked my ass off for the last eight months to get them. However, this inventory adjustment doesn't quite fall in that boat. SE might start to RMT off their shit to the highest bidder, but they haven't crossed the line yet.

But are you behind 7 proxies? What if the hackers work in IT as well? Clearly, not all IT professionals have benevolent intentions!?!

New content, however minimal, is not just buying 80 inventory slots. We're all assuming you'll be able to finish Crystalline Prophecy in an afternoon and pick up your shiny new armor, but it could be much more involved than that.

But by adding the Mog Satchel, SE is targeting precisely these people. They will in turn buy the token, get their extra space and immediately cancel the security measure, and some of them will get hacked and SE will still spend the time and money required to handle their complaint. While I agree with you, it will just end up being a self-defeating enterprise.
