Regardless, people would've complained no matter what it was attached to, and that's obvious. You know that, and I'm sure everyone else does, too. Personally, I could care less about a doll, or a music CD, or any of that mess, because I don't care about collectible trinkets. Even if I don't really need it, I'd rather have a dongle that served a purpose than some worthless thing like a statue.

When it comes to what physical objects people feel are of value, opinions will always differ. I'm simply grateful that they're finally attaching something useful to an object that they're selling, rather than something like a piano for your Mog House. And considering that it's not only cheap, but isn't being sold at a profit to the retailer, I don't believe there's any reason to complain.

The difference is that you don't have to use those bullshit collectibles. You can toss them in the trash and keep your in-game item. This satchet will most likely disappear if you deactivate the token. Why is this so difficult to comprehend? It's not about the money.

it's one-way, each with a unique seed identified to the server with the registration number. even with that, you wouldn't know what the seed is. it would be virtually impossible for you to systematically crack the seed unless you had a very large sample size of the device's output. A small sample size of only 1000 consecutive numbers would take hours to produce, and you'll likely have the ability to monitor the person's token for that long. Evne with this very very large sample size and a thorough understanding of the algorithm used, it would be an extremely difficult crack.

Seriously, if this thing is on your account, short someone getting an SE representative to disable it for you somehow over the phone by posing to be you, there would literally be no way in without physical access to the server and the education to get the information you need. For someone to even pretend to be you, they'd have to have your registration codes, which is highly unlikely unless that person has physical access to you.

The closest "real" possibility I can think of, is an unscrupulous SE employee accessing your account, but there are a lot of checks and balances to keep CSRs on a need-to-know basis when accessing information. If something like this were to occur at this level, I'm sure it wouldn't take much research for SE to see it as an internal problem and completely rectify the issue for you so it's really not even a cause for concern even it could happen.

There's something unfair and a pain in the ass about this. They mail the token to the address registered to your PlayOnline account. This means that importers can't get it, or people that moved between regions, since you can't input an address from a country outside the region. Thus, we can't get the extra security on our accounts to keep us from being hacked, and we can't get the extra inventory space. SquareEnix needs to implement a way to change the region of your account if they're going to do stuff like this. This is a definite gameplay and security disadvantage. The only way around it is to find a fellow player or online friend in the region of our account who we can borrow their address, have them receive it, and then export it to us at more shipping cost and possibly customs cost. I also imagine it's a pain if the token breaks and we have to get a replacement, as they may want the old token back.

If these things are fragile, they better damn well let us unlink it from the account while we wait for the replacement, as I expect about 2 weeks minimum to deal with one if we are an importer with a broken one.

1) It doesn't plug into the comupter. It's a numeric LCD display like a basic calculator, with a button on it. When you press the button, a numeric string appears, which is your login password for that 30 second time period. You have 30 seconds to type it in before it expires and you need to generate a new one. It can go on your keychain, but may not be durable enough to survive the abuse some keychains go through, and you can't log in if you lose it or it is broken, until you get a replacement, which probably costs another $10 to get.

2) You don't want to link it to your account until you have it or you won't be able to log in. You don't get the satchel until you link it to your account. Thus you don't get the satchel until you receive the token in the mail.

3) There is probably some limitation to it, such as not being abel to equip gear from it. Still, it's great for loot runs or needing extra food. It's just lame if they're going to tie in-game abilities of this importance to products like this that are difficult for importers to get their hands on.
