If you had to enter its key to disable and to re-enable it I don't think it would defeat the purpose. Someone could just disable it on occasion if they feel as they are safe enough wherever they are playing from, and that entering the key each time would just be an extra annoyance, and enable it otherwise.
Normally to disable the key on your account, you have to enter the number that's currently being displayed. That's how WoW's works and you can remove it/re-add it at any time. I just did it last night actually lol.
I wonder what their reasoning behind never being able to re-add it again is.

Please keep in mind that my post was a reply as to why it wasn't allowed. I wasn't suggesting that the above was possible (or a good idea).
well it says right here
So I'm pretty sure that means all IDs linked to token will get satchel, which means if you have 9 other friends who want the space but fuck the token you could do it. I'm just saying because of the shitstorm of the past 30 pages about people Q_Qing how if you share accounts you deserve to diaf and get your shit jacked someone's going to mention how one person is gonna end up with 9 accounts :D.Originally Posted by SE site

I meant that you should be allowed disable the need to input the token each time you login. That doesn't imply that the token would become untied from your account and that anyone could use it as a new one (that makes no sense because of the way the system works).
Actually, it would be useful to be allowed to choose from 3 different levels of security:
1- Token disabled, you need its key to re-enable it (as you don't want to do that in case you lost it).
2- Token enabled for account management operations (you don't need it to login, but you need it to change your password, change account info, purchase something...)
3- Token enabled each time you login.
In all cases the key would be required to change the token settings.
I blame Sase tbh ;(
Perhaps it's something that can be implemented later. Also, the security token's one-time fee of 9.99 makes it pretty cheap, so it could be just an attempt to offset some of the costs per user by requiring replacements in these instances.
SE probably wants to eliminate a large amount of account sharing, which will probably help the Special Task Force Unit detect RMT activities based on account sharing better.
They could also cite that the security token loses it's effect if its enabled and disabled repeatedly and erratically. That's probably true as someone who has managed to get your account and password might repeatedly be trying to login with your information, and hoping you'll disable your key soon. Someone with a Security Token might relax a little when it comes to protecting their account and become infected with something and not know it prior to disabling the token on their account.
I'd honestly have to agree that it doesn't make sense to use it some of the time but not all the time unless you were sharing your account. If you are sharing your account, you might as well not use it anyways, your shit is eventually going to get ganked.
It might just be a way to get people to stick with using it to avoid paying 9.99 again.
Yeah, lol. Honestly, I can't wait to put it on and I can't imagine myself ever being tempted to disable it. I'm really excited.
Granted, some people might not be too happy they can't disable/enable at will and pretty much defeat the whole purpose of the token, but at least they can get the Mog Satchel and still share their account with friends. Or, for those that don't share and just don't think they need to be bothered with it because they are on a console.
Of course, I'm sure people will still find a reason to bitch. Neo's probably editing his letter to SE calling them RMTs, making him pay for more space. Personally, I'd have paid an extra 9.99 a month for Mog Satchel without the token. But Neo is a man of principle and these principles are not bound by arbitrary details such as the difference between reality and a video game where half the population are cartoon cats.
I'll definitely never disable mine, but I really hope they streamlined the whole activation and linking to account thing well. I'm imagining it'll be like Blizzard's Battle.net accounts and how you can link them to your WoW account.
Going to love when I have a few hours of downtime in Afghan this coming year and decide to log on to say hi, but have to call my wife at 2am and get my generated password.
Still not pleased that im paying 10 dollars for inventory space (for those that dont want the token), but at least it can be disabled now. Now I can just be annoyed at having to pay for game items, and not forced to use this insult to my intelligence.
At least the general populous is happy, as if I cared about that.
