It's more like 1/14 (~7%) for ~350 damage, and when you're geared for Haste and accuracy (should be using Dorado Sushi so 80%+ accuracy easy) and getting Haste and Double March it procs about every 20-30 seconds.

It's obvious that you haven't seen it in action. It literally outparses most DDs on HNMs. Even on Vrtra, who is significantly more evasive and higher level than Cerb/Khim it does more than most SMNs. Plus Cerberus takes an additional 20% damage from any proc (so you're looking at over 400 damage per proc).

*EDIT* Looking at the math, with 20% in gear Haste (Turban, Velocious, Homam hands/legs/feet), Haste and double March you're swinging every 1.6 seconds. Obviously you'll be casting shadows and whatnot so let's say every 2.5 seconds. Over say a fight which takes 60 minutes (3,600 seconds) that's 1,440 swings. 80% accuracy drops it to 1,152 swings.

Let's say you hit for 5 damage each swing (a very low average but I digress) and your proc does 350 7% of the time. That's 5,760 damage from melee alone and 35,350 from the add effect over 101 swings.

This is all with not even taking Atonement into account and already you've done over half of Cerberus's max HP. Put two PLDs with the Excal/Aegis combo on a mob and you can see how 4-manning it in less than half an hour becomes reasonable. I've personally seen PLD PLD BRD WHM take down Khimaira in about 26 minutes with two Excal/Aegis PLDs on it, so yeah.

I agree with this, I would like to see any Joytoy pld out parse melee and BLM on HNM like Khim/Tia/Cerb like our Excals normally do. And these are not gimp melee or blms, all relics/full morrigan etc. a proper excal setup is hard to beat damage wise on HNM.

Actually I did a 6-man KS99 Wyrm with one just before the January bannings. Perhaps that isn't a situation in which it can realise its full potential, but the BLM, the RNG and myself on RDM constituted the vast majority of the damage in that instance. I suppose it depends on the setup - if you have access to the right support then I can see it being very powerful. I'm not saying it's not good and can't be amazing, I just think people treat the extra damage with this kind of God-like reverence which is something I don't really understand.

And yes, it very much depends on the PLD's gear and support. But that's just like any job in this game, no?

You don't need excal to low man a Cerb. Hell don't even need an Aegis. Pld/Brd/Rdm/Smn could do it. Atonement just owns Cerb.

Tiamat is a much longer fight, and also has a much higher resist rate against BLM damage.

Seeing as I work with the same people you do, this statement is largely false. Excal might outparse BLMs because of the significant rate of resists when fighting HNMs, but Arriya falls behind my SAM by large amounts in a parse typically on PLD. Not to say that Excal isn't ridiculously powerful, but you're over glorifying it. I come out ahead on Khim/Tia by significant margins, but since we stopped camping Cerb I can't compare. =|

I've done 3 Aegis/Excal PLD on JOL before, all double marched and hasted.

maybe he is implying a super built galka pld with hp merits and top gear like your sam might make it come a lot closer.... a galka over taru is like 100+ additional dmg a proc for instance.
