Seeing as I work with the same people you do, this statement is largely false. Excal might outparse BLMs because of the significant rate of resists when fighting HNMs, but Arriya falls behind my SAM by large amounts in a parse typically on PLD. Not to say that Excal isn't ridiculously powerful, but you're over glorifying it. I come out ahead on Khim/Tia by significant margins, but since we stopped camping Cerb I can't compare. =|

Me and Riko cotanked Khimaira SAM/WAR x2 when Spruck DC'd before the window. I also cotanked Tiamat as a designated tank in the tank party, voking and everything. And did not die once in the process.

Agreed. I can't speak for Tiamat as I was always needed on PLD, but I have also tanked Khimaira SAM/WAR for practically the entire fight without issue.

Keeping shadows up and using more varied hate tools than Voke and Gekko is a little trickier and does require a degree of focus. That said, I've always maintained that any good tank (or melee, for that matter) is nothing without good support.

Hardest assault is the fucking penguin one where you need to escort one back to the professor without it bugging out using emotes or something. On like the fourth tag with 4 people all trying to coax penguins, I got it to the professor with about 40s left.

You're saying you can hold hate with only voke, warcry, and a fire resist set?

Until you can 4man khim in under 30 minutes with 2amano sams tanking, excal IS really that ridiculously powerful.

Excalibur gets its strength from fighting monsters with less than a full alliance where you can mend your tank and your DD together into one. If you're 12-manning Cerb or Tiamat I'm calling bullshit on your SAM doing more damage than an Excal PLD, since you'll pull hate and die way before you're able to put out enough numbers to overcome it.

Now if you're destroying the mob in 15-30 minutes with 6 relic DDs or something of that nature, yes, your SAM would probably beat the PLD simply because the PLD's damage is of a more damage-over-time sort rather than big numbers up front.

Khim is a different story since it eats your TP and most of your damage comes from Atonement.

And yeah. Saying you tanked Khim as SAM/WAR isn't really anything worth bragging about, considering the only thing keeping you up is a shit-ton of mage support. Way to be inefficient.
