Cities have always sucked, but CoP and Icelands aren't really that bad.
An event that promotes constant participation and the threat of a modified strat due to cell drops constricting the run = boring
afking for 3 hours at kings = fun
3 1/2 hours of dynamis, the same repetitive strat that never deviates = fun
I guess everyone derives their specific means of enjoyment?

If salvage isn't fun then you can't call most things in this game fun because the amount of time spent killing vs camping is hilarious. Oh you want to fight faf? Then wait 2.5 hours and kill for 4 minutes. Want to fight tia? Camp for 30 hours and fight for 30min. Want to fight khim? camp 20 hours and fight for 30min. OH BOY FFXI IS FUN.
I wouldn't include those long times but cerb seems to have a boner for facecamping long window hnm with more than a party.
salvage is still the best event in the game and accordingly has the best drops
Fix't.
I loved Salvage, it was just long enough that I wouldn't start to lose focus by the end but not so short that I didn't feel like I was accomplishing anything. Only thing I really hated was the fact that after you got your 3 parts, you had to scrounge up other materials which were usually pretty costly.
They're all garbage tbh. I like einherjar the best, it's short, fun and everyone benefits one way or the other whether it be from actual drops or ampoules. Only mildly entertaining dyna zone is tav, and even that is getting old, needs more instanced goodness that isn't repetitive :/
Ain't that the truth. Cerberus was still stuck in the 2004 stone age when I was there and it doesn't seem like it has changed at all. Hard to believe anyone actually camps anything with more than a party anymore, especially the long spawns like Tiamat and Khimaira. And Cerberus, the HNM, is not even worth killing, much less camping.
There's no real way to make any instanced event (or non-instanced for that matter) that isn't repetitive. Any game, anything you do anywhere is going to be repetitive. The life of a game coincides to if the developer can push out something new before people actually quit from the repetitiveness. I do agree though, that Einherjar is my absolute favorite event in the game.

Don't get me wrong, I like salvage, but you're delusional if you think it isn't repetitive...every event is repetitive, and the only thing Ein has going for it is it's short. It's not really any different than Dynamis as far as content goes. Rewards are ok and all, but I don't see how ampoules are valued unless you're brand new to engame - should cap on them in a pretty short time frame otherwise. And past that, the drops are nothing special. I guess the Odin specific pieces are neat, but they hardly benefit everyone.
"Worth killing" is a pretty vague concept...but coming from a LS that actually spends time to kill Jormungand (for fun or not), this statement holds no water. Some people actually like killing shit, perhaps you don't, but afking in whitegate is only fun when actually afk, not just standing around. Past that, I have no earthly idea where you came across the idea it's not worth killing. From a pure gil/manhour spent perspective, I guess you're right. But really, no event in the game is worth doing from that perspective. Go solo or sell soul plates and just buy all your gear, you'll get the most in the shortest time frame that way. That being said, killing Cerb is better gil/hr than -camping- any king, Sandworm, or DI, doing sea or sky, doing ZNM, and well, pretty much anything outside of solo/duo or soulplate farming.
Forgive my ignorance, but what legs are those?
ASA mage pants.
