I'll be the one to say it: congratulations Riyoko.
Not because he has upgraded Burtgang (it IS trash and I told him many times when I was in Pixies, and he'd go emo on me), but because of the work he put into it. I remember he made some massive server transfering with gil and shit, it was fun listening to his plans.
Ayme, Burtgang is crap. If your LS doesn't do PW or AV, Burtgang is a town sword, just like Hauteclaire (DI arguable if you use PLD tanks). Did you ever see me use Hauteclaire outside of DI, or the very rare ocasion when I was bored and felt like looking pretty? I bet you didn't. I hope you don't take Kalas as a reference on how to play PLD. If anything, look at PD and Ata. I'm sure you'll have plenty of chances to see PLDs in action, cause apparently SAMs (Amano SAMs) can't tank mobs.
Also, as someone said: if you can't Atonement properly, use a fucking RDM.
Hey, Burtgang is great for Yilbegan.

AV isn't relevant, it can't be killed regardless of what manner of tank you throw at it. Furthermore, when we can kill AV(depending on its difficulty at that point), its still going to be better handled by SAM, MNK, WAR, DRK, or RDM.
Admittedly, I have no idea what tanking PW is like, but could I have an example of why PLD is the only possible tank? I find that incredibly hard to believe.
People just have this idea in their heads that a PLD is really, really hard to kill. I mean, it's the tank job, how on Earth could a simple mage possibly provide more survivability? The problem is one of perception, and a lot of people's perceptions of tanking are still stuck three or four years in the past. Many seem to view this "RDM tanking" voodoo you speak of as a kind of avant-garde practice that only progressive shells make use of, probably because their PLDs don't have Aegises, Burtgangs and D.Rings.
Well I'll take this time to thank Silian and Black Lotus for doing them for me. I paid them 500k/title and was WELL worth it.
SE really dropped the ball with their drops. Should have given them something on par with the stat +6 rings that were recently added so people would be more interested in farming them.
Can do all with 6-9 I'm pretty sure. Caiti needs Gulool and I've been meaning to organize a low-man kill for a while now but I'm lazy / not playing as much lately. I'd be interested in setting some up though if the right people came along.
I know I'm not the best FFXI player, but I know my pickup groups wiped with 22 people.
Even with my winning runs, shit can go wrong pretty easily.
I imagine you're thinking something like PLD/DNC super tank on the adds, with a WHM and RDM to keep him alive, (outside party) and then PLD WHM RDM RNG RNG RNG to do the boss?
I know nothing about the fight in question so this could be way off target, but if I was supertanking something on Paladin I would want to be /BLU for Cocoon to chop off some extra damage in the first place, rather than using TP to heal the difference (unless there's some bonus to /DNC I have overlooked).
A pickup group will never win with 6~9 people.
You gotta' have either a loving (read: bored) linkshell or a lot of members upgrading mythics...
I don't think Sath meant that you could pick up 5-8 scrubs in whitegate, add yourself and go kill the shit out of some beastmen kings. Either way, they were pretty easy as long as the people you have are competent and not retardedly geared.
Gulool is the best though, desynthing the breastplace and splitting the 2 imp wootz ingots was a nice bonus to the title
