Because there's virtually no situation where Burtgang is useful, yet it was still upgraded, twice. I can only imagine somebody intends to use it inappropriately.

You could either nuke/ws (with other jobs in party) it down maximizing damage per TP feed or pull more mobs and just WS by yourself from TP gain from blocks.
Like I said tho I can't see a mob on which doing this would be required so it's rather a fun theory like Ceremonial Dagger and enspells. It could be maybe useful for soloing something with discoid but that would be personal job achievement rather then something useful.
Burtgang can be for sure useful on some strong RNG NM tho. Since you can't block ratt and EES from NM can still hurt. For example this mofo PLD/RNG in bastok. It keeps throwing ore for 700 damage and his defense is high enough to put CDC damage below Atonement. Ofc you can probably tank it on evasion/blink tank like NIN but we talking about playing on PLD ^^
Burt offers a guaranteed 900 damage WS (probably better than what Almace has to offer on anything warranting a PLD) and OAT aftermath, in addition to some extra safety and/or flexibility. I don't see it being that bad compared to alternatives.
I haven't been keeping up with new content so I can't really say anything, but as an example I heard about a MNK NM in Glacier that spams Hundred Fists and has extremely high accuracy. Given this (and lacking personal experience), I see three options for killing it: PD zerg, kiting, and a PLD tank.
PD zerging should work as far as I know, but it limits you to one attempt per run and I'm willing to bet a DWing Almace PLD contributes more to the group during the remainder of the run than a SMN using Ifrit's Favor and Inferno Howl would. Kiting necessitates a nonstandard setup. Bringing a PLD seems to be the best option here, generally speaking. Wouldn't surprise me if I've missed something though, especially since we haven't fought it yet.
Yeyoking: 90 mythics get a hidden +15% modifier to mythic WS damage. 862 would be the correct number I guess.
We've dropped that monk nm pretty fast with two masamunes
Well if it's that squishy I suppose it's not an issue lol
Dynamis is still easy, everything is just kill it before it kills you..like everything else in the game now. I can see pld being useful for the stage of us figuring out the gimmicks for all the voidwalker nms. Once we figure it out I can see it pld not being worth it again
Can't people still upgrade things just because they like the job or the idea of having that particular weapon? I mean, maybe not. I could be old-fashioned, I dunno.
I never really understood that either. People can use (or waste, depending on your view) their time and money on whatever weapon they want, really.
I'm not a pld, and can't argue the math, but how are you getting 35 damage OAT weapon with a 750 atonement damage cap beating a 64 damage OAT weapon with 900 atonement cap?
And as for the usefulness: We occasionally find Pld fun/interesting/useful on newer content until the gimmicks are found out, and these people have other melee jobs when that's not the case. I fully expect to see the job used again as we increase in level. But you guys can keep being mad if it makes you sleep better.
I really wonder why having a conversation as to a weapons usefulness has to do with someone being "mad"
When I usually defend PLDs that statement is retarded. If your damage is low enough to atonement do more then CDC + ODD then your melee damage is really low. In this case damage on weapon change very little and OAT will win. Burtgang is only OAT if you start with 300TP and only for 2 min. You would need to have capped haste I think to 15% more on Atonement would beat a need to accumulate 200 more TP every 2 min. Ofc there is still 2-3 and 2-4 swords which beat burtgang on atonement damage even with 300%TP on start and 2 min fight.
