Isn't 100 VIT quite a low estimate for Torcleaver too? I mean it won't make a great deal of difference but will change it slightly. Like I have 81 VIT on DRK/SAM I think.

Not 100% sure what you would WS in with Calad but I imagine you're looking at something like +15 from Calad, +10 from Twilight Helm, +10-12 from Ares or Shadow Breastplate, +5 from Spiral Ring, +5 Jingang Greaves. So you're probably going to have more like 126-128 ish VIT.

So more like 1028-1033 base damage for Torcleaver? Doubt it makes much difference though.

If you talking about my test it included best sets available for both WS. I did forgot +15 VIT on Cala itself tho. With that +15 total vit is 152 for torcleaver and MND+CHR is 202 for Ragnarok.
This +15 doesn't change much and on the other hand I took base stats from my DRK and I am Galka and I have highest VIT(89) and lowest CHR(62) among races I think so it was already in favor of Cala.

Not much different to what I'd use. Probably be more tempted to use Spiral Ring instead of pure VIT ring (5 STR for 2 VIT). Assuming W. Tath is for STP you'd probably get better damage out of Rajas + Bomb Core or that +4 VIT seashell thingy. I think Ganesha's Mala would probably beat a Gorget too (0.1ftp versus 2% Quad. Attack and 4 VIT)

Not that I expect it will make a noticeable difference.

You will not need to WS in white tathlum and brutal if you have 33 stp during tp phase, which is very easy to do with /sam + ace + goading + rajas + brutal + white tathlum. I would use moonshade, which gives a huge edge to Torcleaver, and when facing tougher mobs I would go with AF3+2 legs and onyx sollerets.

Both sets were taking Da ammo into account (I forgot to change white tathlum on ffxiah). I should probably go with af3+2 legs but it wouldn't change that much. Moonshade earring is the best earring for Torcleaver but those days ppl have many jobs and there is few other good choices for this earring. Btw wouldn't +25TP bonus be best also for crit WSes? 10% per 100TP is probably lowest we can assume so wouldn't 2.5%crit rate be better then 2WSC or 7att ( :hi and Vsmite assuming fSTR already capped for Vsmite).

I would think so yes. I am using it for Drakesbane for my drg. It is one of the better choices for that earring.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it commonly believed that Crit WSes have anchors at 100/200/300 TP similar to how aftermaths work, and not a linear distribution like TP=Damage WSes have? i.e. if the WS is 30% crit rate at 100 and 40% at 200, WSing with 150 TP gives you 30%, not 35%.

I doubt anyone ever tested this out. Only from eyeballing it is unlikely. I always felt like my rampages, drakesbanes, raging rushes were better at 150-180TP compered to 100TP at merit parties at 75.

Just from my math, I think unless your attack is capped, Onyx will be very competitive, and especially against mobs higher lvl. I think unless you are very lucky to get 3 WSC out of 5 VIT (since those values are all floored), Onyx will be slightly better. And if you are getting 2 WSC, it is less than 1% increase in your damage because I would assume you have higher than 200 D+WSC. And Onyx's attack will almost always be more than 1% of your attack.

The DA adds 0.4% damage and could be the deal breaker.
